Description
In conjunction with my Tolerance stamp:The really long rant is on THAT stamp.
On this stamp I just want to say:
Why do we even classify people? Just say you're a PERSON.
Isn't that what we want? To just be accepted? So why do we HAVE to classify ourselves?
Instead of saying : "I'm a gay Jewish black man" or "I'm a straight Hispanic Buddhist woman", can't they just be people?
It's a rather silly thing, this classification. I have two friends: one was born in Egypt, the other born in South Africa. BOTH were told by the schools and testing systems to mark "Caucasian" rather than "African American" on their SATs and other standardized testing. They both protested, because by definition, they were BOTH African Americans. They were in fact born in Africa. However, neither of them were "black". Thus lies the problems with classification. In the end, it's pointless.
(^ true story that; they both still complain that they probably missed out on some needed scholarships because of it... oh my friends, lol)

Why don't you just shut up because everyone should have their rights, good or bad.

Tolerance is so beautiful. I can't even tell the difference between people, sometimes.

The only difference I see is "mean" vs "sweet"... but then I usually want to find out what made them so mean because I don't believe anyone is born mean!

Yep. I agree with that. I meant as in races, actually. If they're nice, then it doesn't matter what they are.

Ive travelled alot in the countryside of most of europe and some of africa. Ive met people from all the corners of the earth, got friends in macau, london, canada, brazil, australia, germany and so forth. The thing that i have learned over all other is that people are people. They, for the most part, just want to be polite and want people to be polite to them. We are more similar then we know or, in many sad cases, would want to think.

AshPnX In reply to Caradepato [2011-10-29 01:42:29 +0000 UTC]
Agreed. I tried to remind my gender studies professor that everyone was more similar than she tried to claim, and there were more 'differences' within the stereotyped groups than amongst the groups.
