Actually, if you look at any of the source material, China is referred to as male. Himaruya-sensei himself has confirmed that. In fact, several times in the webcomics China is seen with his shirt off, and here [link] in the official wiki, his gender is stated as male. Also, the official genderbent version of China [link] drawn by Himaruya-sensei himself is clearly female, meaning the original was male.
...Sorry, it's just this misconception is spreading through the fandom like wildfire, and I'm trying very hard to remedy this.
