I was playing around with a "what if" idea if Imago was a male changeling instead of a female changeling and I hate how much I like it XD Before I get into depth on why, this scene was taken from when Mako and Imago first "met" in Bubble's college dorm: Reveal: Part 2

With my current head canon for Changelings, they are a more matriarchal kind of pecking order, where the Queen is the top, females are normally warriors, love gatherers, hostage takers, so on.. and males are more passive and are workers in the hive, keeping up the cocoons, watching the nursery, and also going out and collecting love if need be.. more like a bee hive or maybe a D&D Drow socieity XD Don't get me wrong, Imago has moments where she is protective and kick ass, but for the majority of the time she is small and scared and passive, keeping her head down... which doesn't really meet my criteria for how female drones normally act...

Not to mention, Male Imago would have that baby making juice >H> (with equipment that is shown on my Twitter and on Derpibooru)

How would this change the story? Well.. not much, up until Mako and Imago first meet officially. Imago, in this version of the story, would have been disguised as Bubble Lee so long that he wouldn't mind Mako still seeing him as a female, or addressing him with she/her pronouns. Because of this long exposure to being a mare, I can see Imago becoming much more feminine and likely becoming more Genderfluid, swapping between female and male or maybe both whenever the mood/dysphoria hits. He could shape shift his stallionhood away and make himself appear female, or just stay smooth and non-binary. Mako is bisexual, he wouldn't mind either way. Imago internal turmoil about not being a proper mate for Mako because of her natural infertility wouldn't be relevant either.

Buuuuut I don't feel like such a change would be necessary for the story. It would require a lot of rewriting, pronoun changes in every board, completely rewriting some boards to make sense.... and some really awkward moments for future boards >H>;; So instead this would be marked up as "Thinks I wish I thought of earlier" category and draw as a guilty pleasure XD Imago/Bubble is a very personal character, and like most of my main OCs, has a bit of myself in her.
