Season 8 Episode Art Stuffs!It's starting again, though so is my Con Season in a couple days...
Hah, that adorable little hippogryph.
There were just too many new characters to reliable make in a single session, so I went with the crazy excitable Silverstream, and a species I havn't painted yet! (though sketched before) She beats out poor Skystar with a painting, but their energies have been pretty similar at least hehe. Must be in the Hippogryph's blood.
A lot of them were pretty adorable, though. But I do wonder how this school will play out in the long term...
I just know I want to attend Applejack's classes for no particular substantial biased reason at all... nuuuh.
So many feathers haha, the angles of some of them I had to figure out a bit on how I could adapt my usual fast messy method to it. But upward just didn't work as well as down...

Beautiful. Silverstream is obviously the Pinkie of her group, since there's no way anyone would be so excited about stairs otherwise. I just hope she will have a bit more to her than Pinkie's randomness. Take Ocellus, for example. She's the Fluttershy of her group, but she's also as smart and studious as Twilight.

Silverstream isn't really like Pinkie. Pinkie is just random and crazy, a party mare brightening up other ponies' life by acting funny and crazy, while Silverstream is geeking out over objects she doesn't know because they don't have them underwater in Seaquestria.
She is an explorer, an explorer of things that are new to her and, funnily enough since you mentioned Ocellus being studious, interested in examining those things cause she doesn't know them. And not just things, living beings and other races and their cultures as well, she reacted incredibly excited over Yona, cause she has never seen a yak before.
This is a personality trait very much different than Pinkie Pie's.

I remember Pinkie getting excited over a yard sale on used patio furniture once, so I wouldn't say she doesn't share that personality trait with Silverstream. Also, Pinkie is very interested in exploring new things like, say, the yaks. She was the only pony who read the yak stuff Twilight told her friends to read, she was the first pony to visit Yakyakistan for generations and she insisted that Twilight make her the official friendship ambassador to the yaks. That's not randomness, that's serious dedication.
However, I admit I may have phrased my original comment a bit poorly. I certainly didn't mean to imply that I think Silverstream is just a younger, hippogriff version of Pinkie. Of course they have differences, I just happen to see Silverstream as the "Pinkie Pie" of her group of friends. If the Young Six had to fight a villain with the Elements of Harmony, I'm positive that Silverstream would use the Element of Laughter.

I give you what you said about Pinkie and the yaks, this is true. Both her and Silverstream share the trait of a childlike curiosity. But I think what is different between them is that Silverstream will take a lot more studious approach to discovering new things (I can see her taking apart a fleet of stairs to examine the architecture behind it, to give an example), while for Pinkie, it's more about simply being there and experiencing the atmosphere or nature of something.
In short, Pinkie is simple-minded and just wants to enjoy new things, while Silverstream is eager to completely understand what she discovers and to get to the bottom of it.

I see your point, but I'm not sure I agree with it just yet. I'll have to see more of Silverstream before I decide whether she's as studious as you say. Right now, we know that Ocellus is the only one who paid attention in class, or at least some classes. Silverstream might enjoy new things exactly like Pinkie does, until she does something that says otherwise.

Niiiice.
However, the idea that the hippogriffs don't know what stairs are made me wonder... how long ago did the Storm King drive them into their underwater lair? It'd be one thing if only Silverstream was excited, as that would mean the SK invasion happened to their kingdom in the last 15 years or so, enough time that Silverstream wasn't born or old enough to remember her time on land. But then General Seaspray seemed equally interested in seeing the stairs. Maybe he was just accommodating her excitement?

Thank you for asking those questions. There are quite a few things that don't add up. Even if the Storm King had attacked the hippogriffs when Silverstream was just a baby (which I'm pretty sure he didn't), her fascination with stairs would still be weird. There are some long-ass stairs leading up to the hippogriffs' city on Mount Aris, right? Surely she must have seen them before she left home to attend Twilight's school. Speaking of which, Silverstream had already attended said school for a while when she got her stairsgasm, and there's no way in Tartarus a building of that size doesn't have any stairs.
In conclusion, I'd say the only explanation is that Silverstream is just as random as Pinkie Pie and that there's no point in trying to understand her. I'm positive that General Seaspray was simply humoring her.

I would put it more on cultural species difference most likely. Ponies have stairs because only 1/3 of them have wings. All hippogriffs have wings, and similarly in Griffonstone back in S5 all the Griffons simply flew up to and down from upper floors of buildings and such, even amongst ponies many pegasi ( RD for instance) are often flying upwards beside their friends while their friends are using stairs, instead of walking up the stairs themselves as well, giving an indication that sentient beings in their world who can fly highly prefer doing so. Whether or not there were any/many stairs in Griffonstone I don't recall, but even if there were none, given their demeanor I wouldn't expect Griffons to care so much about seeing stairs even if it were for the first time
