I hate 'less' and 'fewer'. Less is for AMOUNTS, when you're not referring to units of something, eg, less milk, less of a crowd, less understanding of 'less' and 'fewer'.
Fewer is for numbers, thing which come in units, eg, fewer litres/molecules/jugs of milk, fewer people, fewer instances of correct use of 'less' and 'fewer'. It's really SO SO EASY. But even people PAID, PAID to spin words (like effing advertisers) consistently get it wrong
