Description Een goede reiziger is iemand die niet weet waar hij vandaan komt.
Een volmaakte reiziger is iemand die niet weet waar hij naar toe gaat.
-Lin Youtang
I try to keep everything in English but this is one of those things which doesn't seem to translate very well, however I tried:
A good traveller is somebody who doesnlt know where he is going. A True traveller is someone who doesnlt know where he came from.

This was a birthday present for my very good friend Iris who is possibly even more of a gypsy then I am! The paintitng is loosely based on the Drakensberg mountains in SA where she took me on a trip... A very amazing beautiful place to be!

Happy Birthday Iris!

"A good traveller is somebody who doesn't know where he is going. A True traveller is someone who doesn't know where he came from."

I'd love to know how this reads in the language it was written in, but I think I grasp the concept and your painting captures that nicely. I was a bit of a 'gypsy' in my younger days. I love the depth, or height of the deep blue sky.

Mostly the words for good and true just sound better in Dutch, however I don't think the original quote was in Dutch so I wonder what it said exactly... things get lost in translation a lot!
Original quote by Lin Yutang so I presume the original quote was in CHinese!

My friend and I both live the gpsy life and thankgod we manage to meet up in between travels. However we both had soem issues with feeling at home where we supposedly came form so a lot of that has to do with this picture and the quote!

Glad you enjoy the space.. I tried to cpature it and so glad it was noticed! Because there is nothing better than a view at your feet for you to explore!
So much freedom!
Thankyou!

I'd love to help you, but I'm afraid my picture is not nearly close to printing quality. I can ask if my friend can find a way to make a decent copy though! worth a shot...
original is 200 x 50 cm

I took another look at it and the thing I like best about this picture is the rest that's in it, a sort of dynamic balance that comes from standing in that position... You could stand like that for hours, leaning against the knapsack. You know, the kind of moment in a walk when you can just stand still and enjoy the view, to continue later with the same energy without getting rooted to your spot? Seems very much like you, I suppose.

*smiles* now that was a nice analysis! Yeah the man was coocked up 4 years ago because of the relaxe pose and has been wanting to be put into a proper picture ever since! I think I needed the SA experience to finish it off. I had to remember what it was like to pause and be in awe of your suroundings and I had to remember that it is not the destination so much as the way you get there.. I know cheesy but true. And my friend is very much like that too except that she takes an even more swirly up and down path than I am to get to places...

Beautiful, I'm liking the blending of the blues and reds creating a perfect balance for the background and the foreground to come together. A great gift too!

yeah.. we had fun packing it

Gald you like it! I like the contrast.. which I was aiming for, the sky was a pain in the well you know and I still am not satisfied, and the background had just so many options that I'm glad I didn't end up overdoing it! Good learning and experience in this one! Acrylics will do me in someday! haha!

I really like this, the contrast between the foreground and background and the pose are perfect.
