Squirrels store nuts for winter, right? So, why didn't she eat it? :lofl: She just buried it, in the snow...

I read somewhere that squirrels will eat until they are full and then bury whatever they find after that, but I'm not sure I believe it. I think it depends on the squirrel. Some squirrels seem to be real buriers, while others seem to favor eating first. At least that what it looks like to me.

After she was back in the wild, (late spring and summer, into fall) she'd empty the feeder, and take the nuts and bury them. But seemed irritated when I'd give her the nuts, like it was a compulsion to bury them, and it was inconveniencing her and keeping her from the feeder. Hahaha. She would often bury them in lazy spots too. For example in a potted plant on the porch, or under leaves by our pond, or even put them behind a car tire. No effort was made to 'hide' them, just to put them somewhere because she 'had' to.

I'd even open them for her to see what she would do, and she would ignore it until the whole ones were hidden. She might have eaten half of an opened walnut, and leave the rest. I suppose I may have spoiled her as a teenager? ..with better food.

Well, sure! I hand raised her. She's my outdoor fur baby. I found here when she was 5 weeks old, and raised her, and slowly reintroduced her back into the wild.

and if you want to waste some time, here is a video of her - it a little outdated but, who cares, right?!: tinypic.com/player.php?v=10zu4…

I miss the baby-baby soooo much! But I am glad she's happy and alive, and in the wild. I'd do it all over if I could.
