Superhuman Abilities: Gifted superhuman powers via a cosmic ray storm mutating her body, Human Torch can surround herself in fiery plasma without damage to herself. She can also absorb fire/plasma without any damage. Through her flames, she can generate thrust and fly. Her current cruising speed is a little over 120 mph, but she can accelerate faster, and Johnnie's always trying to push herself to fly as quickly as possible. Apart from surrounding herself in flames, Torch can launch fire projectiles, such as fireballs, or even make fire “shapes,” though these require much more focus to do and maintain. With her flame on, she can vaporize projectiles, anything with a lower energy output than her surrounding flames doesn't affect her. The higher the energy of her surrounding plasma, the lower the length she can “burn” for. She can dramatically increase the output level to what she calls "Nova Flames," which has a currently unknown level of heat but has very little control of this and just tends to burn herself fairly rapidly, which requires her to recuperate for 12 hours or so. The flames need oxygen to burn, and removing the oxygen from the environment means that Johnnie can’t use her powers. Water or flame retardant has the same effect, though she can still burn it off by increasing her heat and eventually relighting herself. Johnnie's energy comes from her own internal fusion, meaning she can't really use her powers if she isn't well-fed and nourished....she's definitely not a morning person.

The youngest child of Franklin and Mary Storm, and in many ways, the black sheep of the family. Whilst her parents and her older sister Sue displayed incredible intellectual prowess, Johnnie preferred to spend her time on other less lofty pursuits. Overshadowed in her family by Sue, the apple of her father's eye, Johnnie sought attention where she could get it, from friends, their parents, anyone. This means that Johnnie is outwardly very charismatic. In fact, one may go so far as to say that she needs to be the center of attention.

When Johnnie was 5, the family went on a road trip to NYC, where Franklin had set up his think tank, the Future Foundation. Although she claims that she doesn't really remember anything from this period, she does remember. She remembers the only time when the family seemed to work. Everyone seemed happy. She remembers the baseball game that their father took them to. And although disdainful of baseball as a slow and boring sport, her "physicality" and draw to sports, perhaps, stems from this captured moment of bliss. And, well, the extreme sports and recklessness were just a way of attracting attention from a family that never seemed to be able to focus on anyone but themselves. In that vein, Johnnie's mother left to pursue her career when she was 6, and in some way, this may have fueled her obsession with cars and speed: she’s trying to run and catch up.

After their mother left, their father involved himself deeper in work. To a degree, Sue became a surrogate parent, but more willing to yield to her taste for adventure--but nonetheless, Sue was forced to act much older than her age should have demanded. Finally, having attention from someone delighted the young Johnnie--and she became "the performer" in an effort always to keep her smiling. This positive reaction to her antics further cemented her need to be the center of attention.

However, with Sue later graduating from school and enrolling in the Future Foundation as one of their father's head scientists, Johnnie again withdrew, feeling lonely and isolated from her family. Where Franklin and Sue had science to bond over, Johnnie didn’t and could not really bond with them over the dull sport of baseball. Realizing what was happening, her father sent her to California, where her grandparents could provide the family, stability and attention she craved. Although her mischief and thrill-seeking behavior continued, Johnnie's charismatic and charming nature returned. She was able to get his thrill-seeking from surfing and sports and school, and she flourished in the sun. California suited her.

Johnnie's high school years weren’t filled with studies but sports, engines, and a group of friends as crazy as she was. It was during this time that her aptitude and love for vehicles, especially driving them, grew. She and her grandfather were able to share a passion for cars, and although it was more of classic cars vs anything that goes fast and makes a lot of noise, Johnnie finally found a kindred spirit and a father figure she could relate to. It was thanks to her grandparents once again that she didn’t turn out to be an excessively spoiled trust fund kid. They forced her into team sports in an effort to discipline her. This parental focus proved fruitful as Johnnie became the Running Back for her high school team.

After graduating from high school, Johnnie was admitted to UCLA, where she is currently a sophomore. Although Johnnie isn’t really focused on academics, rather enjoying her time partying, being the second-string Running Back of the UCLA Bruins, the UCLA racing team peaked her interest. The supervisor professor saw her love and passion for automotive vehicles and is trying to convince her to take it up as a career.

While enrolled in UCLA, one day, Johnnie was recruited by her sister Sue and her fiancée, Reed Richards, for their top-secret spaceflight mission to investigate a cosmic anomaly near Earth's orbit, where she would serve as the engineer and backup pilot for their spaceship, the Marvel-1. Johnnie joined Reed, Sue, and fellow pilot Ben Grimm on the space voyage to the anomaly dubbed "the silver beacon." As the ship approached close to the "silver beacon," Reed attempted to extract some of its cosmic energy for study. However, something went wrong, and all four passengers were bathed in an intense wave of cosmic rays.

Following the four's return to Earth, they all find that the cosmic radiation has drastically mutated their bodies, allowing them to develop superhuman powers and abilities. Johnnie discovered that she could engulf herself in flames, but it took some practice to control it consciously. During her training in the Baxter Building under her father's supervision, she eventually managed to perfect the transformation, using the phrases "Flame On" and "Flame Off" to control herself. She also found out she could exert control over both her fire and other nearby fires, and she could even use the excess heat to fly through the air. Compared to the other members of the Fantastic Four, Johnnie was the one most excited to use her newfound powers as a superhero. In fact, she even named herself "The Human Torch" after the superpowered android from the World War II era.

Though over the years, Johnnie would eventually mature, but still maintains some of her edge and recklessness. Of course, she would eventually go on to meet a certain web-crawling hero, and the two would become fast friends.

For the Extraordinary Marvel Universe, I made Johnny Storm female because I wanted to test a slightly different family dynamic. This was inspired by Mangaverse Human Torch, who is also a gender-bent female. I also made Human Torch pansexual to add some diversity.

As for her design, I gave Johnnie a sleeveless top and shorts for her Fantastic Four mission suit as a way for each of the Four to have a distinct look. She's also wearing a jacket and shades to make her look more laidback than the others. In this universe, Johnnie is much younger than everyone else, with Reed, Sue, and Ben in their thirties while Johnnie is in her early twenties.
