Description
Hey there folks, hope you're doing well.In my case I've been feeling sick. My brother caught a cold or flu this week, and probably was him who made me catch a cold now. I guess it also had to do a bit the pressure, and some impacting news I received days ago, so.
I had planned to talk with a couple of friends this weekend, but since yesterday I started to feel the symptoms and and now I feel really bad, I have a hard headache and my mandible hurts, my back hurts, my eyes hurt, and the only one reason why I am not resting right now (nor I could rest yesterday) is because yesterday I had house chores, and now I have various college work to do.
I sketched this last weekend, but I hadn't colored yet, so I thought if I was going to be up working today because of my homework, I'd as well color this and post this
Because like this I'm just making dumb stuff on my homework
So, yeah, this is my entry for Villian Design Sheet contest www.deviantart.com/journal/Con…
This is like the second time I arrive on time to participate in a contest. I did it for fun because I felt like interacting with the group and hammin' drawing new characters was going to help me to feel better after the shocking news. And I think is working
ABOUT THE CHARACTER AND STORY
She's a character from an story of my own, one I have invented some time ago but of which I never wrote nor drew anything. It was just an story I had on my mind. It takes place on a little french town in south France, in the midle of 18th century.
That was a time where they people often would chase with their torches and pitchforks the science man and woman who said things clerics couldn't explain, to burn them at the stake. And this character was unfortunately someone who adored science. He was interested in discovering new cures to the diseases, since the ones they had at that time weren't very good...or good at all.
So she started to study science in secret when she was a teen, with a ocuple of young science entusiastic people. And of course she was discovered and called "a witch", and were going to burn her up, but she got to run away to the forest to save his life, and never was able to see her family again. Plus, before that incident she fell in love for a man and told him about her feelings, and then he said he didn't looked how she looked like and because of that he only wanted her as friend. And then he abandonned her.
So, she was there hidden for some years, and she got more and more hard feelings with the town for crushing up her dream of being a scientist, with the guy to who broke her hear, and also with her family because they didn't show up to help her when she needed it. And her heart became though.
She was planning a revenge with the town that was once her home, but she didn't felt strong to do it.
It was until she found a fire spirit who also had hard feelings with the town because he went there being friendly, and then they threatened him and called him a monster, because he was something that for them was unkwnown.
Then she got the idea that if the spirit would share them his magic with her then they both would "make them pay for the suffering they caused them".
So, she started to terrorize people burning their crops and houses at night, and she proclaimed herself as the ruler of this town and she made people pay tribute to her.
That's why the fancy dress here. And she used a mask and a nickname that was flame fatale, because she couldn't see face to face to that people, she thought they would hurt her again.
In the other side, meanwhile all this happened, there was the hero. A girl called Madeleine who was also passionated of science. Just that she was passionate about gadgets and was obsessed with flying. She wanted to be an inventor and was working on a flying machine amonth other inventions. And even so she had to work in secret as well, she didn't lose her faith or her enthusiasm on science. She kept working and searching and experimenting and dreaming.
When flemme fatale took over the town she left aside her flying machine and with a friend of hers started to think off on an invention to stop her.
Time passed and the sorceress had been gather all the money and dresses she wanted, it looked like she had achived her revenge. She though she was going to be happy with that...but she wasn't happy. She was rather more and more miserable everyday.
She didn't know revenge would never give her any peace to her broken heart. So she tought erroneously that taking people from the ville, and she took Madeleine's father, then Madeleine and her friend decided to go to find witch and rescue the people.
The rest of the story...I'll not spoil it to you because the end has a turn off that is something you don't except.
I'll only say that yes, there is a happy ending like in all disney movies. And in this story the science wins over the magic ;D
And that there will be a o lot of fluffy dresses, science, fantasy and of course french slang
I hope someday I can do a comic or book with this story, I still have faith I will, so no spoilers.
Hope you like the drawing ^^

Merci beaucoup mon ami!

I like her design, as well as her powers! Design-wise, she reminds me of Belle and Aurora (mostly where her hair is concerned).

Hehe, I think is because I wanted this story to be settled on France and an specific age, and The beauty and the beast was set on France and I think more or less at that same age as well.
I realize it now that probably I unconsciously thought of it And took it as inspiration for my setting.
It was a great surprise to see you visiting me! thanks a lot! I hope you're doing good, and feel free to send me a note or a message whenever you like because I'm always glad to know about you. ^^

Huh, that's pretty interesting! I never thought that "Beauty and the Beast" was set in France, but I think I should've figured it out by the names XD
Aw, you're welcome! I'm glad I could cheer you up by visiting your page! And I'll probably send you a note or a PM whenever I have the free time (my schedule has become increasingly busy)

Oh course it always cheers me up to see you pal! ^^
Hehe, yeah it is set in France. When I watched the movie as a kid it was interesting to figure it out due the names in French. For example "belle" means beautiful in french. And "Lumiere" means light in french. Even there's a song in French that belle sings that is called "bonjour".
I think that movie helped a lot to plant the seed of my love for French.
And talking about French...by the way, I've been learning frech as a self-taught learner since a few years. So if you like the French and want a friend to practice it, I will gladly help
I need someone to practice it with.

*clocks self in the head* Ah, now that I read your notes, that should've made a lot more sense.
I've always found French an interesting, but challenging, language, though. Just trying to pronounce it makes my head hurt Currently, I'm learning Japanese--I can read a very little bit of kanji and understand it, but I'm still working on how to hold a conversation in it--as well as brushing up on my Spanish...

Oh really? Wowie!!! Is the same thing I think about japanese: I've always found it interesting as well but very challenging, and also intimidating. For me japanese seems like a very very complicated language, so it is in my list of languages I'd like to learn, but is one of the last of the list
Meanwhile, French is a language that I've always found very heartwarming and kind of....familiar...
I guess it has to do with the fact french comes from Latin, as well as my native language spanish.
Since I was a kid I had that passion for languages. When I was very little I had some "idealistic fairytale standars" as my family and family friends used to call them, because I used to tell people I dreamed to learn all languages of Earth And that I dreamed to found an animation studio and make animated movies, or work with Disney.
But now I am a grown up, I think I have more "realistic standars" ; just to have a job where I can develop a bit of my potential as an artist, and knowing at least 8 languages like Tesla.
In the top of my list were English, French and Italian. And I've learned English with a teacher, and currently I'm on my way to fluently talk French, completely as a self-taugh learner. And after that I think I probably will learn italian, and so on.
My list was: English, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Chinese, Japanese, Dutch. Because from what I've read, these languages are the more "usable" so to speak, and they will help me in the professional field. Dutch is at the end because I've read is one of the most difficult languages, even more than japanese and chinese, and is convenient to learn the most complicated languages at the end. I also wanted to learn mandarin chinese, swahili, latin, and ancient Greek, but probably I'll never find someone who can teach me that, so I will probably keep my short list
I'm so happy to know you like the french too!!
And I wish you the best luck with your japanese! My! That's so brave of you to do!
And if someday you need some help with spanish let me know and I will gladly help you

Ah, I see. It's the reverse for me, to be honest--French looks so beautiful and I'm always mesmerized when people speak it, but when I look at the words myself, I get intimidated by it. ^^" But it is one of the languages I wish to learn, along with Italian, Japanese and Spanish. Dutch and Greek looks pretty interesting but also very intimidating too, to be honest.
And yeah, I admit that I like France mostly because of the food (seriously, I'd love to go on a food tour of Europe), but I'm also interested in the history of the nation and learning about its people, culture and lifestyle. There are some really beautiful places in France that I'd love to visit--several times there were opportunities for me to go to France, but the price of said trip was too much...:/

Heheh aww, in the part when you said you were mesmerized when people speak french you reminded me of myself! ^^ It was very cool I think, the way you described it, cos I feel this amazed too
I must say....There was a time I thought french was really difficult. After watching Un monstre à Paris and get the courage to learn it for a while I realized it's not as difficult as it seems.
What I'd recommend to people to do first if they feel the language intimidation, to feel it less intimidating, is to watch short videos of french to get used to it. You can start with that I think
There's a couple of things I can recommend like these funny animations
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgBlCi… www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM_V_d… www.youtube.com/watch?v=Km8k7p… ; www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAGwv3… www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1et8V… www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy2sJi… www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix4erg… www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJP2t7…
The one with the piano and the one with the aliens have the best voices in my opinion, these I linked are my favorites ^^
Or maybe a song? Songs can also be good for this. This is one of my favorites www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFelOS… you can also try watch the movie where it comes from.
Oh oui! French food is awesome! ^^ Also, for what I've read while learning the language, I realize french have such an interesting and cool folklore and slang. Their lingo is very witty and fun, there are lots of french expressions that are very similar to mexican's expressions, they have this playful vibe that also characterizes mexicans lingo. I think that's the other reason why I find it familiar, heheh.
Because I can say expressions in french that remind me of my mexico. ^^
Don't worry if you haven't had the opportunity, I know one day you'll be able to visit france! If not for your own, maybe with me I plan after finishing my career and get a job, to save to go to a little tour for europa, alone or with my dear Mentor if she likes. I think I could include you as well ^^
At first I though to do it alone, but I feel to travel alone is kind of sad, and to travel with friends is always a lot of fun. Also we can help each other to pay for it.
Of course, is a future plan but....Why not? You dont lose anything with planning things.

Thanks for the links, I'll take a look at them when I get the chance! And yeah, I was always mesmerized by how they said the words; I knew that it'd take me multiple times to get it right if I tried to speak it
Aside from Japanese, I'd really like to learn the French culture, especially the various slang that they use (though I may want to get more versed in it before I try to use it). Now I may have to take up some French; you've inspired me to do so, haha.
And thanks for the offer for the trip! It'd be amazing if I could go, but I'll probably have to set aside my own money, too.

Yeah, French slang is always cool.
And you're welcome! ^^
I just wish I could promise you to pay for your trip when comming with, but even paying myself a trip to France is quite a dream for me right now...
I really hope in the future when I finish my career, things can be different.
But I dont know...one thing is what you plan but at the end life decides for you.
Although, you don't lose anything with dreaming and planning

Actually, slang in any language is cool, but I'd really like to learn French slang
I'm planning on saving up a lot of money to go on a full out European tour--the UK, France, Italy, and Ireland. That means I'll have a lot of language (and customs) to learn, but I know it'll be awesome.

Genial!!
