There's a smile on my faceAnd sorrow in my heart,
My melancholy soul.
I can taste my salty tears,
Feel the weight of the darkness
That circles my eyes,
The heavy lids I dare not close,
Harboring movie screens behind them,
Endlessly replaying the same sad scenes
I breathe a little easier knowing
I am spoken, not alone
But there is an emptiness, an abyss
Waiting to be filled.
I am needy, small and weak,
Coming to you for the love I never felt.
My voice rings out, loud and clear;
I stand, head raised,
A smile on my face.
It is but an illusion.
