So many European features on an 1860's U.S. locomotive! There's the wheel arrangement with a single driver and that hypnotic Stephenson link motion!

Wait, are those outside eccentrics? I don't think I've seen those before, they're rather cool looking though.

Yes, they are. ^^ Outside Stephenson valve gear was a rare arrangement used occasionally in Europe, and almost exclusively in Central Continental Europe.Β I'm not sure it was ever used at all in North America.

Ah, so they do exist! I'm trying to think if we had anything here in Aus that might have had them but I can't think of any. I do wonder if there were any in Russia, they had some rather oddball designs I believe.

It's very possible that those two regions had some, although I can't think of any examples off the top of my head.
Perhaps that steam-powered railcar in Australia...?

Now that'd make it even odder than it was, but a cool type of odd ^.=.^

Ah, but I truly, truly don't. Β On the fireman's side the eccentrics are even lined up inline with the main crank!Β I didn't even try to animate/time them.Β Way out of my league...

The way it's currently set up, my best hope hope would be to animate each Stephenson valve gear "unit" as if it was geometrically a siderod, RT3-Crampton-style-- hence the cams remaining "stationary" regardless of drive wheel rotation.Β However, each valve gear rod is also separately modeled so the unit could easily be broken apart and animated correctly, should I find a very good animator. XD

Possibly.Β But there's also the matters of cost and the fact that my computer struggles to run any programs more advanced that MSPaint. XD

I was flip-flopping as to whether or not to put the phrase "non-pirated" in my above post. XD

Oh oh that reminds me we can also flip-floppy disc it too, although that would take about 700 years
