Description My dear rabbit Spec' passed away on Wednesday.

He was the cutest, most loveable and adorable bunny ever. He was always happy, greedy both for food and cuddles.

I can't bear that pain, I can't accept it happened. It was so fast... Monday he is just his happy self, Tuesday he seems in pain and doesn't want to eat anything and Wednesday the vet calls to tell you he didn't survive the surgery (he developped gastro-intestinal stasis which means his stomach was blocked by something like maybe too much hair...)Β

He was everything to me. I don't know how I'll manage this.

I think I'll start working on a series of four-panels short comics about my animals' lives and all the good moments we shared

Technically speaking taxidermy, eating, or keeping them after they die shows just as much respect to nature as burying them and leaving them to rot in the ground. I understand your stance, eating our pets seems cruel and wrong, but after they die, it's just a body really, sucks to hear, say, etc, and their comment was totally wrong and rude, but some people handle things differently. If they were being serious and not just trolling.

You know what? After the pain had gone and I could think about him without crying I realized I would have loved eating him. That way he would have been part of me forever, helping build my proteins. Seriously.
I don't know if'd have had the strength though...

(superlate answer, I'm just looking at that picture again today)

It's a very symbolic thing, he becomes a part of you, a thing that helped sustain you food-wise as much as he did emotionally and socially. He's helped you, even in death. It's not what people want to think about, but in places like UK and stuff, you can't bury pets, not that I live in the UK, and an alternative since cremation is literally hundreds and a fleece of money, is consumption.

It'd be easier skinned and cooked. Their fur really preserves well, my first pelt was an untreated pelt from a dying wild rabbit I assisted the death in. He was on his side kicking and struggling, suffering and I did what was needed, real nice pelt. I regret after my one rabbit died not skinning her, never seen a rabbit like her since and honestly she's likely fully intact in the ground right now, even though it's been years because animals buried don't really rot as fast as we think they do, but the tree grew around her so she's one with it. Was my dad's idea, some religious stuff he beat into my head, he'd never have let us bury her anywhere else. (She was too skinny to eat, my dad technically let me and my pets starve not to derail this conversation and I refuse to ever let it happen again now that I'm in control)

But yes, him helping you build proteins sounds poetic and beautiful.

I'm so, so sorry to hear about your lovely bunny. I know very well the pain you're going through right now. I lost my beloved little bun, Ianto, back in January. It was very sudden and totally unexpected. I was at work at the time and came home that evening to be told he was gone. It's broken my heart and the pain, as you say, is overwhelming. It still hurts terribly and I start crying every time I think of him, I miss him so much. If you ever want to talk or have someone you can just vent to, you can message me

GI is so horrible, how it sneaks up so quickly. I'm always in constant panic over my bun because of how much he sheds/grooms/ingests fur.

Your bun had such a sweet face. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a furry loved one. *hugs* I'm sure he's doing binkies on the Rainbow Bridge now, and eating all his favorite greens (and probably eating all the Big Guy's charger cords, too!)

I know we won't be able to make you feel better, because I know how painful it is to lose pets..
I've lost many chinchillas, other rodents, a bunny and a couple of dogs throughout my life, and the pain never completely goes away... It does get more bearable with time though, so that's probably the only thing that can help you... Time.
I hope you'll be feeling better eventually.
Really sorry to hear of the sad news.

I'm sorry for your loss.

It must be something about spring, my black lab-Blackie died Easter 2015, and one of my cats-Strat died on my birthday last year(2016 for future people), it still hurts looking at pictures of them, but I know they had a good, long life.

I also had rabbits years ago, Thomas, and Vivian, maybe they're all playing nicely somewhere, feeling no pain, or sadness.

The pain may never fully go away, but you're strong, you'll make it through this, I believe in you.

Here is one version from the Internet - it is based on an old Norse legend:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.Β

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I hope this bring you some comfort.

Your bunny looks so adorable. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure he was a good boy. I know what it's like loss a very close pet. I used to have a pet rat. Her name was Scabbers. She was my pride and joy. I considered her my daughter. What I didn't realize was that she was pregnant when I bought her from the pet store. Since my baby girl had babies of her own, I had grandchildren. Even though they were rats, I still had grandkids. Then, like your rabbit, Scabbers suddenly didn't do so well. She was her normal self one day, the next, she refused to eat and drink. I got to say goodbye to my baby one last time before I went to bed that night. The next morning, she was gone. A few years later, I had held one of her daughters in my arms when she was dying of old age. I comforted her and told her that grampy is here before she passed away. The point is that losing a pet is hard. The hardest part is getting so close to your pet and you consider it as your child and seeing it die. As far as pets go, I held my rat granddaughter in my hands when she was taking her last breaths. It's already hard enough when your pet dies, but when your pet has babies and you become a grandparent to those babies, it's really hard to see your grandchild die in your arms. It may be painful to think about, but the memories is what keep our deceased loved ones alive. Your bunny will always be with you in memory. Same with my Scabbers and my rat grandchildren.

I'm really, really sorry.

I keep rats, I understand. And I know that nothing I say now will make it better, and that you'll feel the pain for a while. But remember that time helps, and that it was fast for Spec' too, and that he had a life full of joy (and didn't worry about future or death in the way humans overthink stuff). He had a good time while he was with you and at the end it's what matters. The timing of their lives is just different and faster than ours but it doesn't make their lives and bonds we form any less important. Unfortunately accepting this is a part of the deal. I remember everyone of my rats who passed on but over the time it's mostly the good things I remember, not the pain of the loss. I know you'll get there too because it sounds like you loved Spec' a lot.

that's rough, my dog died last year. One day he stopped eating and we took him to the vet and he got an x-ray and then a CT scan and nothing seemed to be amiss, but he still wasn't eating. We were on our way to the vet specialist so he could get an MRI when he died. It was only a week since he got sick, so it was also pretty fast, and that's always the hardest to handle.Β

I don't know what to tell you to make it easier, I know for a lot of people remembering the good times would make it easier, but for me, it just makes me miss my dog more. I just hope you find a way to get through this as painlessly as possible.
