Description An easy step-by-step guide to making fursuit bodies.
This guide is pretty basic, complete with a generic character.

I will not be making a digitgrade tutorial as the concept is the same, just sculpt the foam for digi legs and tape it to your legs during the DTD!
(Cover the foam in cling film or tin foil before taping and never wear elasticated clothing while making a DTD)

I won't give away the exact details of making fursuit parts, if I did I'd be out of the business! Good luck to any aspiring fursuit makers though!
Feel free to use this character to practice your first body with-but please do not steal/copy/alter anything from this tutorial.

Does this end up riding up depending on what pose you do?

I wish I could make a skintight fursuit body to stretch my clothes over but this tutorial got me thinking about making mine.

Why not just foam up s onesie and put fur on it?

I want a bit of padding on the front of the suit and I don't want the zipper getting in the way of it.

Same as putting it in the front, just cut a line down the middle of the back, place the zipper under the backing and sew it into place and zip it up, though I suggest the front if no one else would be there to help you zip it up.

You could just do a hidden zipper, there's tutorials online for it, and then you won't have to change anything really except maybe add extra material to the back, or you can map out the design and create a slim piece of fabric with the corresponding design and add velcro to the end and start of the zipper and velcro the hidden material on so the material continues smoothly.

Thanks! I want a zipper in the back cause I'm gonna add a bit of padding on the chest and I didn't want the zipper making it look weird.

I had a suit made for me of my old fursona that had chest padding and a zipper in the front, it didn't look weird at all. I had two detached paddings, similar to like leg padding.

but either way, if you use the hidden zipper it won't be obvious at all.

is a Duct take dummy required? I mean can't one just measure themselves with measureing tape? this
is my 1st time making a fursuit and being 36 it is a little weird to make a DTD..

You can do it with a measuring tape, but it will be a little less accurate.

Late, but it's not required. If you're making the suit, you have yourself there, if you were to commission a fursuit maker the idea is to ship it to them so they can measure you accurately. So no, not really.

Since DTDs are very tight to your body, will the body of the fursuit also be very tight?

Aurora-Fabrications In reply to Lufca [2015-04-21 09:02:01 +0000 UTC]

It depends on how much room you leave around the fursuit, as on step three you will see that you must leave a 2" gap around the body, this is to allow for seems but also give you enough room to move so it's not tight at all! Any more than 2" and you'd likely have a more baggy suit.
If you do want a slightly more form-fitting suit though, you can leave a 1" gap, but you'd have to use a more stretchy fabric as normal fur won't allow the stretch you need to move around fully!
