The announcer’s steady voice echoed across the arena: “Next in the arena: this is Montssori and Leo Coeman for their Adaptability Trial.”

I tightened my grip on Monte’s leadrope, and walked us into the arena. My first thought: that is a hell ton of stuff. Fun. I honestly had no idea what I was doing. I maybe should’ve listened to Beckett’s instructions on the class instead of playing with Monte’s hair. I’m probably screwed.

The first thing I do is unhook Monte’s halter, and set it on the arena gate. He probably isn’t going to run off. Probably. I walk over to the cluster of random items Monte curiously following me. The first thing I see is a teddy bear almost the size of me. I’ve always wanted one of those things.

I pick up the bear, struggling a bit, and drag it over to Monte. He reaches his cute head down and sniffs the bear, perking his ears at it curiously. After a few seconds of assurance, he starts nibbling on it’s ears. Is that allowed?

Then, my eyes land on the boombox. Bet. Picking it up, I walk it back over to monte. I turn it on, keeping the volume very low so only I can hear what song it is. Old Town Road by Lil Nas X. Perfect.

I turn up the volume all the way, and immediately I hear multiple people grown. I’m pretty sure I can hear my own beloved sister booing. Love you too, I guess.

Monte puts one of his ears back, looking at me almost to say: “Really?” I scoff at him.

The next I drag out from the pile of objects is a yellow balloon with a white flower pattern on it. “Amazing.” I whisper to myself. Immediately, I come up with an idea.

I hand the balloon string to Monte, and right away he grabs it and holds it. He’s always been good at holding things.

The next things I grab from the stack include a large pole that I vaguely remember Beckett telling me about and a hula hoop. Perfect.

I walk over to Monte, who is still standing still obediently. I then slowly climb up onto his back, to where I am sitting on his back. The hula hoop and pole in my hands. What am I doing, you ask? I have no clue.

I then decide on a whim to stand up. Slowly, I lift myself up. Monte puts one ear back, but other than that. doesn’t move. Once I’ve fully stood up, I slide the hoop around my waist and hold the pole in the air.

I then start to hula hoop, with Old Town Road still playing in loop in the background.
