Description Well, my Spring Break is officially over. ;( I was actually pretty busy during last week but I did have time to draw. I haven't really worked on original characters that much (mostly just sketching & colour coding/coordinations). One day I was looking at Amano Yoshitaka's artwork & I really liked Amano's designs for the Final Fantasy VII characters, especially Aerith's (or Aeris).

I noticed that a lot of Amano's FF7 artwork pairs up Cloud & Aerith. (Yay! I actually like those two together.) But all of it was mostly in black & white and not only that, all of Aerith's outfits were different.

I was inspired by Amano to draw Aerith in his designs (even though Tetsuya Nomura is the official character designer for FF7). So in actuality, this design of Aerith here is half original (by me, of course) and half a mixture of Amano's different Aerith designs. I like the art noveau style so I thought it would make a good background. I gave Aerith wings because she is such an angelic character. I really liked her a lot in the game.

Drawn with black India Ink & coloured in with watercolours. The colour outside the border was done in Photoshop...nothing too major. So this pic is 5% Photoshop, 95% Traditional mediums.

Hello! Thank you so much for the on this, I'm glad you like it. Yeah, I liked Aerith's Amano design a lot better [than the in-game],so it was fun to do a fan art based off of that particular design.

Really? Why...thank you so much! I am pleased to know that you like this picture a lot & it "made your day". Aerith's a great character but I wasn't too fond of her in-game outfit...I liked Amano's versions of her, so I got inspired by that & came up with this design of Aerith (based off Amano's drawings).

Thanks for the on this. I'm happy you like it. Oh ja, this outfit is a lot better than the one she wears in the game. I actually don't like her game version outfit, that's why I decided to do artwork of her based on Amano's designs.

I'm glad you did Amano's sketches are so flowy and pretty.
I'd actually like her original outfit if it didn't have that hideous poofy-red-jacket-thing, but I still think yours beats it by a mile.

For me, it's not the jacket that kills...it's those big, clumbsy looking brown boots she wears with the outfit.

Wow, thanks! I'm really pleased to know that this painting has presence for you. I'm happy you get the impression from it. Aerith was fun to draw in this style. I'm so used to drawing FF12, so it was fun to draw somebody from an older FF. It makes me want to do something from FF6 or FF4.

There are many many elements I like about this drawing. I love the yellow frame with the flowers. I like the thick braided hair. I love the dress. The weapon looks like a Jedi double light sabre. The wings are very delicate.

Hi! Thanks for the very wonderful & detailed comment on this. It was fun drawing the Final Fantasy VII character Aerith in this outfit. The actual design (designed by Tetsuya Nomura) of the character is a lot plainer. I liked how Amano drew her outfits...it inspired me to draw this. Ha...now that you mention it, in a way her weapon does appear to be similiar like the double-edged light saber. Her weapon in the game is a staff but I wanted to draw a more detailed staff for her (in this pic).

Thanks! I decided to add in wings because a.) Aerith is a pretty angelic character, and b.) I had this huge space between her and the border, so I needed to add something so there wasn't just this vague blue space behind her. :-p

Bonjour! Thank you so much for the and the very wonderful comment on this. I was really inspired to draw Aerith/Aeris when I saw Amano's version. Amano sure has a very unique style of arwtork & I like the way he draws the FF characters. I think it would be neat if Aerith had such a design (like the one I drew) in the game; it looks a lot better than her normal outfit. Yeah, over the years I was more for Cloud x Aeris. At first I was for Cloud x Tifa (I like Tifa a lot too) but after I while, I was like, "Darn it! Cloud and Aerith do make a wonderful couple." It's too bad what happened to her. Ja, it's been years since I've beat the game as well. 2001, I believe. Drawing this made me want to play the game again.

Yeah... That was the only part of the game that I cried, the first time around. ;o; It was funny to me at the time that I was crying the whole time I was beating up the Jenova "Aqualung" bitch. I was like 'damn that Sephiroth!! Waaaah and ah shit, she just knocked out Tifa and Cait Sith.' *equipped Cloud with a Water Ring to absorb that* Good memories. XD

I've been itching to do FFVIII fanart, particularly of Rinoa lately. owo~

Thanks! I'm glad you like the border. It was a lot of fun. It makes me want to draw more with the noveau-style of borders (especially since I'm still so horrible with backgrounds...actually, it's more like "impatient" with backgrounds!). :-p Fan artwork is inevitable!

Ha ha...you know me. It actually pains me to do backgrounds. Even something simplistic as grass (remember my "Queen of Hearts" painting? I complained so much about the grass.)

I guess you can just keep on using and practicing borders, then you'll be able to make the kinds of pictures with really intricate borders to add to the "wow-that's-pretty-awesome-I-almost-overlooked-it-but-now-I-want-to-keep-looking-at-this-piece-to-see-if-there's-more-awesomeness" factor, heheh.

I remembered when I first played FF7 (which was quite a few years ago) I didn't think to much of Aeris but the 2nd time I played the game (still many years ago) I did like her a lot. When I drew this, it made me want to play the game again. I think the last time I played it was 2001! And I didn't even complete all the sidequests either. You haven't played it? If ever you get the chance, I'd recommend it. It has a really good storyline.

Thanks! I've always liked the noveau style backgrounds/borders but I never really drew (in that particular style) until I did this piece. It makes a fun background. It makes me want to do more.

I probably will, but something from the even older Final Fantasies (such as FF6 & FF4). They seem to be the least commonly drawn of all the FF fan artworks.

Yeah, FF7 is the most popular, it seems. It's hard to say which FF is really my favourite since they are all good. For now I have to say FF12. Oh yeah, Tidus was a great heroic character; he was very different from all the previous FF male lead characters. I remember when I first played FF10, the ending was really sad for me.

Thanks for being the first to comment on this. I had fun drawing Aerith in the Amano-esque outfit. It would have been neat if she had such an outfit (as this) in the actual game itself. Even better would be if Square-Enix remade FF7 (in Advent Children graphics). That game would probably sell out in a second. Hmm...makes me want to reply FF7 sometime soon. It's been years!
