Description
For my future cosplay (I hope to get it finished by the end of this September), I wanted to do this version of Penelo (from FF12: Revenant Wings, on Nintendo DS). Then, a couple of days ago, I beat Final Fantasy 12 (
It's always sad when games end! I'll play it again when I get the walkthrough, that way I can do all sidequests!) and in the ending moving, Penelo is wearing this same outfit, except: it's detailed! Like uber-detailed! More detailed than the FF12:RW version (she's also got body paint on her arms in the end of FF12). But even so, I do love this outfit of hers. I
all the main FF12 characters & Penelo is just so cute and cheery. (Plus her and Vaan are so cu~te together!) When I first saw the Penelo artwork for FF12:RW, I immediately loved her outfit. Plus she's got an interesting weapon. As for the cactoid, it's from the "Flowering Cactoid" Hunt in the game (FF12). It's too cute to be true. I

Now, for some reason the scanner didn't scan the shadowing in this painting correctly. The actual painting has a deep shadow by both Penelo & Flowering Cactoid, but oh well, what can I do? Scanners do what they will do. ^^ I really love how this came out & I hope you do too.

Thanks! Actually, she does have a similar outfit in the first game (she wears it in the ending movie) but it's 3x more detailed.

Thanks, but the costume I did is not based off this particular artwork. If you look at my most recent artwork (Vaan & Penelo), that's the version I did. They both look similar (and are the same character) but the outfit Penelo wears in the ending of FFXII is 3x more detailed.

Ooooh, speaking of Penelo...I finished the costume two weeks ago. It's at my cosplay.com gallery.
Oh yeah, this version isn't the one she wears in the end of FF12. The costume I did is the ending version (which is a lot more fancier).

dang ayane-san that's tight! your paint skills are still so great <3 her outfit would be a very interesting cosplay to achieve. are you gonna wear the outfit to any particular con? or you jus making it for fun?
on a side note, FF12 ish pretty fun~ i got kinda bored at leveling up though (i want more espers) >.<

Ooh. Yeah, all those FF12 outfits have such insane detail levels to them. I have to get back to playing FFXII; I got sidetracked by a bunch of stuff and now I'm replaying Wind Waker on a whim, but since that's a relatively short game I'll be okay. Got to save up money for that Balthier cosplay... it's going to be challenging.

I am looking forward to FFXII cosplay too. Balthier is going to kill me but I can't wait to wear it XD Also to see if I can pull it off... I cosplay guys all the time, but his hair is very short, and I'm not chopping mine, so it'll be interesting to get it all under a wig. I hope your sister does Ashe, too! ^^ That would be great.
The only cosplay I've worked on since AX is VesVes, though not much. I need to get her out of the way. I wish I could have the rest of the Amazoness Quartet, but I guess it's asking a bit much for people to dress like that... they don't wear much. XD I just like them a lot.

I wouldn't mind doing one of the Amazoness girls except I know that Fran & Ashe is going to take all of my free time. Plus, I'm going to get really tan just for Fran. ^_^ I bought the walkthrough for FF12 about two weekends ago & it has the most excellent (and very beautiful) reference pics for the costumes. I was staring at Fran & Ashe going, "Oooooh no, what the heck did Lionel get me into?"
I started working on Penelo's ending movie costume (basically a very detailed version of the Revenant Wings outfit). I thought it would be easy but when I recorded the ending movie & then paused all the scenes with Penelo, I noticed it was even 10x more detailed!

Yeah, those costumes are so detailed! 0_0 I was looking at Balthier thinking something like "ouch." I'm in for some pain. XD The easiest part should be his jewelry, which I can buy walking into any Claire's (seriousy, look at it XD haha). The vest, on the other hand, yikes. I'll make it though! I'll figure it out somehow. XD
Yeah, a lot of costumes require you to make your own patterns 'cause there's no other way around it! I'm remembering chaos's first outfit at the moment, that top of his is an odd number. Looking at Balthier's vest there's definitely going to be a lot of work like that too. XD

Lol, yeah, Balthier's vest has a lot of design. How do you think you'll do that? Make a stencil of some sort & then paint it on? As for painting fabric, I use acrylics (the cheapie brands too!) and they work wonders. Though sometimes they can sort of make the fabric a little stiff.
Craft foam is really amazing. I've used that stuff for little odds & ends on costumes & for accessories, but yesterday I was making Penelo's arm accessories/armour (whatever it is that she wears in the ending movie) and her hair clips and it looks great. It's easy to work with & I just use a glue gun to get everything together (and it doesn't come apart) and I use this type of spray-paint where it looks metallic. (The same spray paint I used for the gold on my so-called attempt on making Kos-Mos' gold armour parts).
Ha ha, that's hilarious what you said about his jewelry. No kidding. And good thing those pastel/neon-coloured jewelry are pretty popular at the moment, so they should be easy to find. ^^

For Balthier's vest I was going to buy some leather or leather-like substance that doesn't fray and VERY CAREFULLY sew it on top of the base black. It's going to be so hard
I'm going to use craft foam for the gold bracelets and hair things on my VesVes costume. Now if only I could figure out how I'm going to do her wig!
