I still like this one too. Perhaps I should make a larger render of it and see how it looks printed. Perhaps on canvas? What do you you think?

Definitely. I would also play with the parameters a lot more! It's too cool.

Ya'know, I've seen this picture before and I liked it then! This is a really interesting piece. Reminds of a furtist's Rothko.

This is gorgeous. I love it!
When I took drawing classes, I always loved the introductory shape lessons and never wanted to do anything else. This reminds me of those first classes, albeit much more colorful since we used charcoal.

Woah, an oldie! Reminds me of the "stained glass" style that we see popping up these days. Great title for the piece and I like the way the slight bits of yellow make it look like lights.

Thank you very much The image seems to put me into the shoes of a voyeur peeking into other peoples home at night
If only I had a power turbo pc that would allow me a quick large good quality render that I could have a canvas print of it quickly
I dread long render times.

Thank you for the I wish I could tell you how I did it but when I loaded the flame into the new apophysis version to make a large render for printing it didn't look exactly the same anymore as it does on the render and so far I have't been able to re-construct it again. It consists of 5 transforms using many different variations.

Have you tried the original version of APO to see what it looks like? It might be worth a try.

I checked the flame with all working apo versions that still function. Something is missing or another thing that might have happened is that I inadvertedly have over written the flame while saving another variation, but I doubt that really. I think I originally made the flame in an early Z version.

I wish they wouldn't disable the older versions when a new one comes out. This last version has really fouled things up.

I was lucky, in the meantime I found a previous version of the Z+ on a CD that works. The new version has two variables for the split variation and that screws up the image. In the old version it's fine. I am glad I found it

Thank you so much for your comment and the
I would have liked to render this big for a canvas print, for my study, during a lengthy absence from the computer but unfortunately when that opportunity arrived I noticed that in the newer apophysis version the parameters don't work exactly the same and I have not been able to make adjustments to achieve the same look a gain. I am very annoyed about this.

I can imagine! It's most certainly worthy of a print. I wonder if it's worth contacting one of the developers? I haven't found any such instance myself... The only real compatibility issue I recall is 2.03a, and that was too long ago!

In the meantime I searched my CD's and found an old exe for Z+ and that shows the flame correctly. The newest Z+ has xsize and ysize variables for split where as the previous version only had one. I tried to play with the two variables to get close to the image again but didn't succeed. I am glad I found the old version. Hopefully it still works by the time I can start the long render. I hate to do it while I need the pc for other things. The render should be big. The render setting for the small version for dA were Quality 2000, Filter Radius 0.6 Oversample 2 and I re-sized the render down by half in psp. I expect I have to upen the Quality to 4000 to avoid down sizing. I wonder if I can get away with 4500x6000 for this kind of image for a 30x40 print or if I have to render 9000x12000. What do you think?

IDeviant In reply to baba49 [2007-02-15 10:58:08 +0000 UTC]
Ah yes, I don't think the Z+ versions expire. As for the render, general wisdom has it that 150dpi is fine for a print of that size (not sure about dA rules, though - I've never had anything printed before). As for oversample, I'm not a great believer in the built-in version. Its primary function is antialiasing: I get more out of a 50% reduction by spreading the operation over, say, 3 steps of 79%. Then perhaps a tad of sharpening to re-define the edges. Still, different tactics for different images - would it be worth trying both ways (higher quality and reduction) on a small version first?

baba49 In reply to IDeviant [2007-02-15 15:43:55 +0000 UTC]
I normally do reduction and oversample 2 when I render small sizes just for the dA gallery. For big sizes I think it makes no difference on render time whether I render large enough to make reduction possible or just the right dpi size ,according to the dA chart, and allow ing oversample 2. I am also not sure how a big image and a large image of the same type done with the same render setting will compare in the end. Probably the small one will always look better to a certain extend. You have many that would luck fantastic in poster size
