Description Ok, so, I am by no means a master at drawing the human figure. But I'm working on it! I also wanted to pass along some things I've learned in my first few weeks of my figure drawing class.

As it says, there's lots and lots of approaches to drawing a figure - gesture drawing is just one of them. And this approach to gesture drawing is just one of many as well! But it's the technique I've been using and having a lot of success with.

At very least, it's always fun to give a new technique a try and see how it works for you.

When I get the chance I'm going to do a follow-up about using plumb lines and measurements to correct proportions. I know my proportions are a bit off here.

Most of the gesture-drawing 'tutorials' I found in a quick search were more like a grab-bag of demonstration sketches or a jump in the deep end of figure drawing.

I love how this is very simple and designed for the absolute beginner - it concentrates on the essence of the gesture rather than worrying about proportions, exact shapes etc. It's very easy to follow and doesn't over-explain, plus all the steps are uncluttered and clear.

Ideal for the first step of a newbie like me - thanks!
