Description I decided to do a tutorial based on my weekend project, a Konica Auto S2 from 1965 that I got from ebay for €3.

How to repair a 1960s rangefinder camera.

1. Pick everything apart and look for what's wrong with the camera and fix that. You might need tools for this. (When repairing you often need to solder some wires and lub something and you also might need to clean something. Sometimes you even might have to bend something or put a file to something.) (a couple of beers might help you on your way)

2. Put everything back together, just the way it was and... Tada!! You've fixed it!

I hope the tutorial was useful.

And when, assembling the camera back together, we get extra parts?

Seppuku. The only solution.

Men...

looks like those beers did the trick, makes me wonder what you can do with a few shots of brandy
Job well done Ben, great camera.

Yes it is. I really love those old rangefinder cameras. They're from back when engineers designed stuff, not marketing people or economists. These cameras were built to last and to be repaired if needed, unlike any electronics you buy today.

so true, now everything is built to break down after a while. Cameras stop working after a certain amount of shots, printers stop working after a certain number of prints and so on, they are programed that way. All this just to keep a society built on consumerism going.

There should be a law that said that everything sold, beside food and stuff, should have a 10y warranty.

That looks a lot classier than the Chinon.
The trick on the delicate work is to drink just enough to steady your hand without passing that point.

"drinking without passing out" I absolutely agree. Yep, they're definitely on different sides of the spectrum. But the chinon delivered decent images, according to internet sources, despite its low budget appearance.

I can't even do that anymore, I go straight from happy to nappy.

I know the one that we had was better than the vivitars of the time.
It also had a more solid feel. More weight, tighter assembly.

Me to nowadays. Vivitar made some hits but mostly misses.
