88 looks so big, yet 90 is the average size in real life. Then again it's anime, so they're meant to be Japanese.
Also the bigger the breasts, the more they weight, so the more they pull down. The bigger ones need to be more saggy, they need to be positioned lower in the torso. Or is it just a bad boob job? If it was, it should have said somewhere.

Most of them are wearing bras, which can and do make the breasts sit higher up on the body. Also, it's considered and aesthetic/stylistic choice common to anime/manga to make them sit higher up on the body, much the same way the waists are pinched in more tightly, the eyes are bigger, the noses diminished, etc.

Somebody happened to lend me a book about drawing anime boobs(actually it's for "the female manga characters" which I thought it would be helpful, but it focuses so much on boobs you might as well call it "guide to draw Anime boobs"), and it's mentioned the thing I commented.
Everything you said was also written there, but even the person who published it said that some laws of physics needed to be followed. There was also a chapter about bras, and yes the point about weight and gravity still stands. Here's a [link] of the book I was talking about. I don't have it anymore, I gave it back to my friend.

I own that book, yes.
Personally I've been finding the more natural look more aesthetically pleasing lately, but in that same series but two books on the subject later the author mentions that breasts that seem to completely defy gravity are a unique feature of some anime drawings, and throughout the series he gives the advice to relentlessly pursue your own aesthetic and standard of beauty without regards to others' opinions. An artistic purist, to be sure.
All that said, maybe that just stiffen their bras with corn starch? just kidding.

Actually now that you mentioned it, I remember to read the part about pursuing your own standard of beauty. I didn't know it was a series of books, so I'll trust you on this one.
Maybe it's just me who's disturbed how far up they're positioned so they don't look aesthetically pleasing to me. At all.

I'm kinda neutral on it--I mean, I prefer more realism because it has that element that you recognize it in your brain as correct, and so it feels more like what you're looking at has it's own presence...
However, I remember reading the gist of the reasoning for it--
(1): They look perky higher up, and so the character looks younger. Theoretically, adult humans tend to find neotenic features (that is, features that seem to be preserving their youth) as visually appealing. The idea put forth by proponents of that theory is that human attraction has the ultimate goal of procreation, and so reminding us of babies causes us to feel attraction. They claim that's why couples fawn over each other, talk baby-talk to each other, and treat each other with large amounts of attention and affection--it's supposed to be preparation for parenthood. I don't know if I agree with that, but it's an interesting enough idea to be worth mentioning.
(2): If the breasts are depicted as being closer to the face, it creates a greater association between the two. That is, the face is the locale of greatest emotional resonance with the viewer. The breasts, for some, have emotional resonance as well. Bringing them closer together creates a sort of synergistic effect, increasing the overall weight of the image when the attention is on the face/bust area. Further distance between face and bust would disassociate the two locales of emotional resonance, thereby dispersing the effect, instead of concentrating it.
Of course, this is also theoretical. And it's going to have a varied success rate--when one has a negative emotional response to high breasts, it's going to detract. But when one is neutral or higher, then it's likely to work--assuming there is emotional weight assigned to the breasts by the viewer. Obviously with most males this is the case, though many females may find it true as well for a wide variety of reasons.
Overall, when you take the time to break it down it's quite an interesting subject, and it's surprising how much artistic thought can go into breast placement, wherever you put them. XD

I'm neutral about it too (see the emoticon in my first post), for the same reasons as the ones you mentioned.
I was familiar with your first reasoning, and I agreed with it but I've never actually thought of the 2nd one, that's a very interesting way of seeing it. Thanks for sharing this information.
I guess you're right, it's quite an interesting subject.

Don't you mean the power of 'boob position' ?
