Description
Enhancing a scanned image using the levels and curves dialogues. This applies to pretty much any image editing program, including Photoshop, GIMP, Paintshop Pro and probably Corel Paint. You'll need to find the adjust curves and levels dialogues.
In GIMP 1.x these are under the Image menu (right-click on the image you want to edit, and choose Image and then Colours and then Curves or Layers).
In GIMP 2.x these are under the Colour menu, e.g. ColourβCurves.
You might also want to experiment with the GIMP 2.x "Auto" button in the Levels window, but I didn't use it here because it tends to change the white balance of a scanned image. Sometimes it's an improvement, sometimes not.
The image used is by can0you0help0me - I loved the photograph, but the scan didn't come out very well.
updated added the word "tutorial" in the title.

I was watching for tutorials like this, to understand and learn about this important subject. Your adjustments improved significantly the image appearance. I think I need to play with this, a little! Thank you!
