As a professional Panoramic Photographer I can say that you have a nice image here, although in your description you mentioned it was made up of 12 vertical shots. I thionk you meant horizontal, but correct me if I'm wrong for some reason.
I've never really used the method of Digital shots then stiching. I just use 360 degree film panoramic cameras.
A great shot,

no, its vertical shots but let me explain why
Shooting regulary (horizontal), the concentration of the image is near the center, thus doing this for a panoramic can result in cropped detail of the foreground and background. By shooting vertical, the surrounding area of concentration is doubled (more foreground and background), but more exposures have to be made.
Whenever making a panoramic from a standard camera, it is always suggested to take shots vertically while overlaping each shot 1/3 - allows better stitiching while providing some room to remove obstructions.

Ah, very nice. I'd try that myself but I don't really think I benefit much since I'm using a Panoramic camera.
If I ever do stitch an image I'll give this a try.

no tripod - I was afraid it would fly away with the 30mph wind gusts
