Description The south side ramp that leads on the rooftop test track of the Lingotto building, near the central area of Turin. For more information, please see Turin - 6 .

Though it is part of a building which formerly was an industrial plant, this place just looks sculptured by light into darkness. Every time I visit Lingotto I can't help spending some time staring at it (and taking shots ) from different perspectives and points of view, and every time i find it fascinating like the first time I saw it.

Winner of WordoftheWeek 's "dark" contest , Oct 22-28, 2007. Dark, as in "having very little or no light".

Full view recommended. Thanks for viewing.

Thirteenth image in my "Turin " series. Please see the complete series .

i did not take the perfect shot of this structure. no one of the shots i took is as capturing as the real thing...

oh, i'm not speaking about technical perfection, you know. the fact is that when i look at the shots i've taken there, i feel someting is missing. i have to find out what.

I love this; I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around it. My first impression was that it was a series of wooden wheels, and even after reading the description I am having a hard time not seeing those wheels

This is superb -- it doesn't even look like it's part of a useable building, but rather some kind of conceptual build.

thanks, gareth.
i think that Giacomo Mattè Trucco, the architect who designed the building, was a real genius, considering that Lingotto was build in the early 20's.

Great shot
When I first looked at the thumbnail, I thought it was a broken wheel, reflected by a smooth black stone surface - I understand why you have to go looking at it everytime - it's so intriguing.

it is a spiralling route that leda from the ground floor to the rooftop. each spiral is sustained by rays of reinforced concrete, which actually can look like a sort of wheel.

i took many shots trying somehow to couple the lines with the boundaries of the frame. this is one of them. but i still have to move upwards and see what can be done from there
