Vee-Jay rubbed her forehead, cursing under her breath.

It had been a long day juggling factors between the various temperamental egos of the Downundan Leaders. She had quietly wondered what would have been the outcome if Princess Sally Acorn had been present? No doubt, things would have gone south a little too quickly. She entered the large hut that stood just beyond the village circle, the mess hut, source for her of a welcome snack and a possible strong belt of something of the alcoholic nature. She was just passing by the bean bag chair when she heard a low growl.

"Ta very much for telling me to 'surprise' her," muttered a voice.

Vee-Jay leaned over slightly, catching sight of Base's hunched, brooding form sitting in the chair. "Eh?" she asked, not quite understanding him.

"It took me an hour to wash all that wild blackberry juice out of my quills and jacket."

Vee-Jay's eyes averted for a second, thinking. What was Base on about...?

Then she remembered - it was Windy's birthday and she had told Base to go and 'surprise' the woman whilst she was busying herself cooking brunch for their guests. Mobian Wild Blackberries, or Swamp Currants as they were called in Downunda, were used more for dyes rather than eating, but given the state of affairs, half of the recent harvest had been set aside to make Swamp Currant Juice and Pies. Base had probably surprised her when she'd had a jug of the stuff in her hands...

She burst out laughing at the probable image that had most likely occurred, Base eyeing her coldly as she did so.

"Oh MAN! I'd'a PAID to have seen THAT!"

"Yeah, yeah," Base growled, ears pinned back at her laughter. "Keep laughing, y'hag!"


I had a shitty day today. Hands down one of my worst EVER in my 3-year stint at my job.
I come home, and burst out laughing at this gem in my inbox.
