Read... or perhaps saw on some documentary - where the Dodo was to trusting a bird. And would walk up to sailors as they came ashore.
Might be a bit of a cautionary tale somewhere in this....

Wrong sir! The dodo evolved without any predators, and therefore had no reason to fear any living thing. THAT'S why dodos would walk right up to humans! They'd be like "What the hell IS this ugly, pink thing?" With no predators, the dodo had no fear, and unfortunatly, that was its downfall. It was even the reason dodos couldn't fly! They didn't need to!
