I coated the inside of the molds with mica powder and suspended large mica flakes in the resin. This is the result! He's fairly durable, but the coating does come off if you really scrub at him with either acetone or windsor newton brush cleaner. I'd assume that over time finger oils would do the same if you handled him a lot.The molds blew after these guys. I made three. I need to A) Do this only when the molds are new. B) Get Mold Max 40 instead of 30 so the molds are tougher- or actually invest in some platinum cure for once.

Good to know! The price always scared the bejeezus out of me. I am not a graceful mold maker. I also need to figure out a better way to mold his little legs. they're too complex to drill so I have to cast with the tiiiiiniest core ever.

I'm not a graceful mold maker either... I always try to use as little silicone as possible ('cause it's so pricey), and end up with odd shaped, lopsided molds with poor registration. I tried the thicker Rebound series recently. It's really nice since you can make a mold without a mold box, thus using less material and making it MUCH easier to open a one-part mold.
www.smooth-on.com/product-line… I got both the 25 and 40 durometer; they are compatible with one another. I would recommend getting some of the thickener to use with these.

ahhh I may check that out then! I'm having a lot of his little bits inside his arms tear off after only a few castings. it would be better for the mold life if I didn't put in tiny cores and just drilled each part but I know my limits. XD
