A wonderful and funny (because of the sign), shot. My guess (pun intended) is that they are waiting for the men in the background to finish shopping as they can wear whatever they want, wherever they want.Β Β

Just as this unfolded, the battery of my FujiFilm went dead. I had to do the fastest switch to iPhone I ever did... it's when they noticed me.
I was told by those in the know, that they are very well dressed underneath.

Arab women only dress like that in public. It is best to think of the abaya (the robe that covers most of the body) and the hijab (the cloth that covers the hair, and sometimes, part of the face) as covering clothing in the same way that you or I might wear a long raincoat. They have other, more ordinary (to our eyes) outfits on underneath. When they are at home or in a private part of a restaurant, club, etc. with close friends and family, they remove their abayas and hijabs to indulge in trendy fashion, just like any other person who enjoys shopping at the mall. You never know what might be hiding under that black cloth. Versace? Christian Dior? Prada? Gucci? Or something even more elite! Many malls in Saudi Arabia sell very fashionable abayas and hijabs that are trimmed or embroidered with gold threads and tassels. Some are sold in brighter colors, too. In short, Arab women love fashion just as much as we do. Β
I work at a mall that draws an international crowd. I see Arab women every now and then. They are just shoppers like anyone else. Their fashion tastes tend to be a bit more conservative, but they generally buy the same clothing as everyone else. They have mastered the art of smiling with their eyes when they hear a kind word.

Oh, I didn't know that. Where I live there aren't really Muslims or at least I don't know any.
Interesting. Thank you for the explanation.
