Description He sensed her as she perched her skeleton on the bureau.

"Hi, she murmured, rubbing his shoulders with damp palms.

He pulled away to beyond out the gaping window, the silhouette of her paper limbs dark against the swaying lightbulb, his own face being kissed by contaminated moonlight and the wailing of his below-door-neighbor's saxophone.

"Go away. This ain't the place for you."

"Why do you say that, darling?" The shadow donned the suit jacket that was draped over the piano.

"There's no place for you here. Leave me alone."

Her moist breath danced along the back of his neck. He could see her reflection in the window, her blind eyes surveying his soul. "You can't get rid of me that easy," she exhaled. "Darling."

He shattered the window with a fist. "Do not," he bellowed through the rain of glass and blood, "call me darling ever again, you hear? You are nothing of mine!"  He launched a heavily-bound Heart of Darkness at the piano. "Leave, damn it!" A Chinese vase at the wall. "Leave me alone, and don't you ever –  " A bible at his family portrait. " – come – " The hatstand at the door. " – back!" The innumerable sheets of aborted musical children at his own face.

He fell back on the bureau, a ghost defeated.
