Description
Little thumbnail sketches for a story I'm thinking of putting into visual narrative. Mainly just wanted to see how long it would potentially run and what page layout would look like. Very boring, as it turns out.The story is one that seems to be surprisingly common (I say that because although mine is based on a real-life occurrence as told to me by my grandpa, I have seen another take on a similar tale by my favorite mangaka-- which I read after I heard this story).
I had lots of fun drawing the bears for this one, although I had to look at tons of pictures of bear-baiting, bear-testing, and just dogs going at bears in either photographs, videos, or paintings in order to get good references for the poses I wanted. I also saw the images of nightmares when unexpectedly coming across uncensored photos of bear attacks-- people with their faces literally ripped off and whole sides of their bodies missing-- for some reason I saved those in my Google photos, nestled in among the shepherds and huskies and smiling moles whose pictures I have also saved. And then there was the time when I looked up images of what being shot with a hunting rifle could do to you, in order to get an idea of how gory this story was going to get. All I can say is that I'm glad this project is just in the thumbnail stage right now, because having to look at those images with any more detail is really going to screw me up.
Mature content is just in case. Nothing too gory as far as details go, but the general idea that can be gotten of what's going on may be triggering/severely off-putting to those who haven't been warned. That, and I believe in following the general policy of CYA (cover your ass).
Sketched out over a period of two days while listening to this song on repeat: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCvpYV…
I have no idea what to call this thing.
