Description Ha magyar vagy, és ismered az 1986os mozi régi fordítását.... akkor ezt érteni fogod. Ha nem:

Hokey... this one needs explanation.

Remember my "The Unicorn Cometh!" comic? It was based on the fact that in the second (around 1990) hungarian dubbing of the 1986 Transformers Movie, the poor Chaos-Bringer got re-named into a sparkly pony (hey, he has horns). But that was only the second hungarian dub of the movie.

There was a first. It was far, far worse...

They sometimes translated the names, sometimes left them in english, and other times... just made-up odd things.

The Deceptitoads is one of the most jarring translation... mistakes? I cannot even call it a mistake. Flukes, maybe. Basically, in the first dub, the Decepticons are referred to throughout the movie as The TOADS.

This makes listening to certain scenes quite hilarious. And I just had to draw one. May Primus have mercy on my soul...

Translation is:

- "Look, Fishing Rod! It has a hole in it's side!"
- "What?!"
- "TOADS!"

Yes, Hot Rod became... Fishing Rod. Devastator is "The Mega-Robot" and Astrotrain was mistranslated at one point as "Jettison" (when they dump out Megatron).

Here is a part (including this scene) from the hungarian version:

So have you seen the hilariously bad English dubs of the 3 Japan-exclusive G1 Transformers shows?

Oh yeah... I am trying badly to forget Headmasters. Or the "Daniel and Wheelie show" as I like to call it. Seriously, those two are in every episode and are even more annoying as in Season 3.

-"You are just a stupid person with a swollen head, Weirdwolf."
-"Hahaha, Fortress Maximus has come himself. Now I shall make Fortress Maximus to fight me!"
-"Darn it Soundwave!" (That's Galvatron's reaction when Soundwave, you know... dies...)

The part that's a shock to me is that Hasbro owns those episodes now and actually sold them on DVD.

I watch some clips from time to time. To me, it's like Plan 9 from Outer Space, something to watch just for the sake of goofing on it.

Heh, indeed, they couldn't be bothered to sub it instead.

I watched the whole series back when I was desperate for any any new TF cartoons, and watched Masterforce too (which has a slightly better dub but still suffers from stuff like Ginrai always shouting "I will stop you, you evil man!" to Overlord), but stopped after Victory's first half... I had an overdose of anime cliches and haven't continued. The good thing is, at least this prepared me for Armada/Energon/Cybertron, and I could skip most of these series easily.

Oddly, the only TF anime I throughly enjoyed was Beast Wars II, which is hilarious and wacky. Sadly only 13 episodes are subbed.

I really like Transformers: Cybertron. Compared to the other dubs, it's brilliant. Sure, it's full of cliched dialog like "It ends here!" and the stock footage is a little overused, and they spend a little too much time on Velocitron but I enjoy Cybertron. What I couldn't get over with the dubs (Victory in particular) were the idiotic names for the characters. Who looks at Blaster and thinks to themself "I'll call you 'Billy.'" The names that really leave me speechless are "B.M." and "Batchtaster." I'm almost tempted to hunt down the DVD boxset for that.

I have a pet theory that Blurr is called Wally because, at the time, the Flash was Wally West in DC comics. But really, I have no idea about some other names, like why one of the Trainbots became Grimlock.

I stopped watching Cybertron around the Velocitron races... Plus, I don't get how they could make such great-looking CGI models and awesome backgrounds, and totally neglect facial animation? BW and BM was 10 years before that show, and had much better expressions. Here, everyone had the same expression pretty much everytime. Plus, some characters were very annoying, and it followed the odd anime cliche started in RID that most Decepticons were incredibly inept bufoons - the few who were a credible threat, like Scourge, eventually defected.

I really want to buy the BWII DVDs, but they cost some insane amount of money. Dunno why, but in Japan, DVDs are very expensive.

They did spend a little too much time on Velocitron doing repetitive races, I'll freely admit to that. Plus, the animation on the faces, though still weak and capable of only occasional acting, is still better than the "Dull surprise" that made Energon so infamous.

At least Scourge had some motivation, unlike Wheelie in ROTF who switched sides as quickly as flipping a light switch. I was under the impression that Scourge was always a good guy, just not the traditional cliched lawful, just ruler type. He wanted what was best for his planet, but he was misguided all along, initially going with the side that took more aggressive action that could promise better results according to his own way of thinking of how "might is right."

Oh I'll give you that. Energon had hilariously bad faces. Especially Ironhide, he constantly looked like he was just realizing he did something stupid and said 'D'oh!'

Yes, he was an interesting character in that regard.

While I was watching Ironhid try to act, I thought to myself, "I didn't know Pat Lee did computer animation."

Heh, there is an animation in the S1 episode where Optimus challenges Megatron to a fight (and wins), where Prime looks exactly the way Pat Lee drew him, puffy marshmallow style. Maybe he saw that as a kid and it burned into his mind?

I guess he never practiced proportions. I've seen his more incompetent work in Linkara's review of Transformers issues 4-5, but the fact that he hired other artists and neither credited them nor paid them makes the bad artwork seem less deplorable.

Not only that,but:

- He forced artists like Joe NG or James Raiz to draw in his "in-house" style when drawing TF comics for Dreamwave
- It was also revealed shortly before the company collapsed that Pat usually only provided sketches for comics he drew, and other artists like Rob Ruffalo finished and inked them... uncredited.

Not to mention (according to Linkara) Lee did pics only of the Transformers themselves, delegating background work to other artists. It would be quite a challenge to find a bigger jerk in the comic industry.

Huh, never knew that! I only knew that for certain comics, like the never-finished TF/GI Joe Crossover Volume 2, he sketched up the comic and had another artist draw it, then took credit for pencils and inks...

And yet, some companies keep employing this jerk as a cover artist.

I guess Pat Lee hasn't done enough damage to the industry to get himself blacklisted yet.

Egyébként Üstökös sunyi képét is jól eltaláltad.
