Description
(This work has been moved from my old account, it was originally submitted Nov 18, 2005)Two children play with a (thankfully) unloaded .50 cailiber machine gun, as their family stands behind them - 2005 Portland International Airshow. Taking this shot was a similar experience to the first in this series.

scary that the little kids probably dont realise that this is a tool designed to murder people who will probably die in extreme pain.

In a way it's sort of a commentary on innocence - they understand the purpose of the device, but not its full impact (theyβre children, and they canβt be blamed for that). I have never fought in war, been a soldier, or killed someone, so I feel highly under-qualified talking about this kind of thing. But, based on what I do know I'm not sure I agree with the word "murder" as a blanket term (because it implies that all killing is unjust); I think there are circumstances where deadly force is necessary. However, I would agree that even when weapons are used for all the right reasons, nothing can erase the horror that comes with the rapid destruction of human life. Thank you for taking the time to leave a thoughtful comment.
