Description

The sun is setting and fading - turning what she touches into gold, which soon will turn into orange and then red, before she'll finally disappear beneath the horizon. And with that, darkness, and another night into the unknown.

The wolf is weary. They have traveled far, since they left the area and the company they knew, setting out alone on the quest of finding a new area they could call home. A new place to live in, roam in, maybe find a mate in. They have wandered far and wide, crossed rivers and mountains, found places with hostile enemies, found quiet places which still just didn't feel right. And now they are weary, and considering just settling at the next decent place they find.

But the sun has not yet set, the wolf has not yet stopped, and walks up another hill - and the landscape opens in front of them. Hills turned into gold, two lakes shining in the distance, cliffs which will serve as viewpoints, flat slopes ideal for running.

And then, the wolf knows that they have reached their destination. This will be home - this is their new territory.

Of course - exactly who and what this wolf symbolizes (can't they symbolize most of us, at least during part of our lives?) is up to you, as well as the exact reason they left what they once knew.

Finally finished this one! Look - a landscape and a proper background! And, of course, the inevitable critter

The reason I did this drawing now (I've had the idea for quite a while now) was the Thursday Prompt: Gold Fields contest, about creating an environment or landscape. It seems I accidentally got the "gold" in there too, though And it's a bit of a last minute entry, as the contest ends on the 22nd. This artwork just look longer than planned.

And it was a lot of fun to play with the bright colors and different textures. I've learned quite a bit from this - not least how to make a decent sky. I'm still not completely friends with the clouds, though, and should practice them more.
