Description I promised I would make a tutorial. I'm horrible at explaining things, so I think I ended up over compensating and explaining too much, if that makes since. God I'm so afraid this thing won't make any sense to anyone but me. Oh well, what's done is done. I hope this helps everyone who wants to know how I do my line art. Comment here if you have questions/comments/concerns

Full view to see the tutorial. It's a huge picture, so beware!

how do you get the lines to look so smooth!? everytime I work with photoshop the lines are all pixelated....

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

begger4mcgregor In reply to AnimeHighSchool [2008-06-26 06:28:46 +0000 UTC]

Do you resize your images afterword? When I work the pictures are usually at least double the size that the finished piece ends up being. When you make the picture smaller at the end it helps to smooth out the lines.

*looks at line in proudness* I've never been able to use the pen tool! Never! And now I have a line (admiting its gone a little... weird at one of the points) which is clear. Great tutorial! Its made things simple and easy to do in steps.

MistressWish In reply to ??? [2008-05-13 02:19:38 +0000 UTC]

Everytime I delete my work path, the original pencil sketch is still there, just overlapped with the new lines. What am I doing wrong? >_<

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

begger4mcgregor In reply to MistressWish [2008-07-01 01:30:46 +0000 UTC]

Did you make a new layer on top of the sketch and select it before stroking the work path? It sounds like you're saying the line and the sketch are on the same layer.

Dhanyelle In reply to MistressWish [2008-05-14 02:49:01 +0000 UTC]

are you putting your line art on a separate layer that is on top of the sketch? and, how are you deleting the work path?
you can delete the work path by pressing enter (ONLY if the pen tool is active) or by going to the "path" tab to the right of your "layers" tab and click below where it says "workpath" to deselect it.

I love the varied line widths. I'll have to try that (maybe). Also, if you want to make a curve using the path tool, there's an easier way. Click and hold down, then drag in the direction you want the line to continue (bad explaination, but something like that). Nice tutorial.

I've always been afraid of digital art, just because there are too many buttons and settings and keys to press... but you made it seem so easy! Thanks for the tutorial!

O: I never knew to appreciate the "Add Ancor Point"-tool... Now, after reading your tutorial and especially triing it on my own, I guess, it would have helped me a lot in the past. Thank you for this view :top:
