Aaron woke up. After being trapped for three months in an hibernation tub he had finally been set free. The dome opened with a hiss, leaving a cloud of mist swirling through the air. He sat up and looked around. It took him a moment to remember what happened. Something had been on the other ship, some sort of creature. It attacked people and did something to them. Something horrible, but he couldn't remember. Aaron closed his eyes and tried to remember. Red flashing lights, lots of screaming and shout, grabbing someone… A woman. Who was she? He focused harder. His memories rushed around and, finally, he could remember.
Turning, Aarone heard a pod opening next to him. That's the girl he grabbed in his memories, Victoria. The lid slowly slide up and stopped, leaving it gaping out like a crocodile's mouth. Victoria sat up quickly once the pod was open. Her eyes were wide, darting around the room looking for something she believed was there.
"Don't let them get me!" she shouted into the room.
"Don't let who get you?" repeated Aaron. "The creatures are gone now, we got off safe. Don't you remember?"
She turned to him, her face pale as a sheet. Her head jerks down and she looks at her belly.
“They’re in me! They’re in me! You have to get them out of me!" Victoria screamed hysterically.
He covered his ears and winced. Crawling out of his tube, he stumbled over to Victoria and grabbed her hand. He lowered his voice and repeated to her over and over that she is safe.
“It’s okay…” he murmur. “We’re safe. Nothing is going to get you.”
He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.
“Let’s go to the medical room, okay? We'll try to find out if there's anything inside you. How does that sound?" he asked her, as though he was speaking to a little girl.
She nodded in agreement and gripped Aaron's hand tighter as he lifts her out of the tube. The two of them walked down the short distance from the cryochamber room to the small medical center. Aaron laid Victoria down on one of the cots. She peered at her stomach again and begins to panic. Crazily, for whatever reason, she claws at her belly and kept repeating that something was inside it. Seeing that there is no other way to stop her, he injected her with a mild tranquilizer. Within a few seconds, the drugs kicked in and she laid still.
Sighing in relief, Aaron closed his eyes and tried to remember again. What ever “that thing” was, he wanted, no, he needed to know what it was. Something so horrible that it was terrifying Victoria. A blurry image of someone’s stomach and something bursting out of it popped into Aaron's mind. He grimaced and opened his eyes. Is that what she was referring to?
Curious, Aaron picked up the edge of Victoria's tank top and lifted it up. To his surprise, there was a glop of greenish-yellow goo, with a bit of blood, inside and surrounding her belly button. The trail went down to the side of her stomach and stopped. Aaron, a bit disgusted and concerned, took a sanitary cloth out of the First Aid kit and began to clean in and around her belly button. While cleaning the goo out of her navel, he realized how familiar it seemed. Had he done this before for someone else? This seemed oddly familiar, like he'd seen this somewhere before. Stepping back, after finishing with cleaning her up, Aaron sat down in a rolling chair and rested his chin on his elbow. As his eyes began to close, his dream world slowly became reality.
A terrible scream jolted Aaron to life. Victoria thrashed madly on the metal table, screaming in pain and fear. Her back arched and something jumped out of her navel. The thing looked like a serpent with a large head. It landed on the ground, screeching before darting off into the darkness. Again, Victoria screamed and arched her back, releasing another one of the things. It landed on the ground, and unlike the first one, it crawled towards Aaron. Paralyzed with fear, he sat there until that thing went towards him, hissing and showing it's tiny yet sharp teeth. It growled and jumped at him. It landed right onto his belly and instantly went for his belly button. It stuck its head in, pushing in hard and making its way into him.
Sitting up in the chair, Aaron clutched his chest and gasped. His heart beating rapidly within his ribcage limits. His eyes darted over to Victoria. She was sleeping soundly fine as anyone could be. Lifting up his own shirt, he confirmed that something wasn't burrowing into his guts.
Victoria sat up quickly for a moment and grasped her stomach. As before, she blindly dug at her stomach and rambled about something inside her. Luckily, Aaron was fast enough to take her hands and stop her from making anymore damage to her belly. Holding her hands tightly, he explained that everything was alright and that she didn’t had to worry about her dreams. Her evidence was the blood oozing from her belly button, obviously meaning that something had crawled out.
"Vic, that blood is from clawing at yourself, not what ever the hell you think is crawling out of you," he said. "You need to calm down and go back to sleep."
Wearily, she agreed and slowly laid back down. Sighing in relief, Aaron decided to check out the cryochamber, wondering if there he could find the answers he wanted. Down the hall and to his left, he entered a small room. Dimly lit, it appeared to be normal. The pipes hissed out some steam and the machinery hummed. Nothing out of the ordinary. Stepping over to Victoria's pod, he peeked inside. His suspicions proved right, there was another trail of goo inside the pod that lead to the ground and off somewhere. He was about to stick his finger into the ooze when Victoria stumbled into the room. Gray circles were around her eyes as they darted madly around the room. Instantly, he knew what she was about to say, but it was too late to stop her shouts.
“They're in me! They’re in me! Get them out!"
Aaron rushed over to her and covered her mouth. Her head jerked side to side as she fought to break Aaron's grasp and scream out more. Grabbing her hand, he squeezed it and whispered to her: "Vic, calm down, there is nothing in you. They can't be on this ship. It was all a dream you had while you were in your pod. It just felt real. You need to relax and get a hold of yourself."
Victoria's muscles loosen and she stopped thrashing. Aaron released her. Wrapping his hand around hers, he lead her back to the medical room. As if she were a troublesome child, he set her down in a chair. She took in a mouth full of air, held it in, then released it in a whoosh.
"Ya...It had to be a dream..." Victoria mumbled.
A warm sensation grew in Aaron's chest suddenly. For whatever reason, he felt close to her. Like he had to protect her and keep her safe. Without really thinking, he kissed her on the forehead. Victoria was taken aback by this, causing her to blush. She stared at him a moment, unsure of what to say as his face turn bright red.
"Sorry, I don't know why I did that..." muttered Aaron, turning away.
"It's, fine, I-"
There was a mechanical hissing and whining sound out in the hall that stopped both of them from speaking. A floor cleaning robot drove into the room with a massive dent in the top of its head. It wheel around in a circle before crashing into a wall and shutting down.
"Oh my god! They're here, those things are on the ship!" screeched Victoria.
She was practically crawling up the walls in fear and Aaron grabbed her before she could make a frenzied dash to somewhere in the ship. If that happened, who knows what she might do to herself in the heat of a panic attack.
"No, their not on the ship," Aaron said, trying to reassured her. "Nothing is going to get us."
An idea hit him and he remembered something. In the medical stuff was a device for detecting foreign mattered. For some reason or another, he knew were is was and got it out. Holding the device in his hand, Aaron pressed a green button on it. It beap a few times and showed a reading on the screen. It showed nothing alien in the hall, but instead, it was in the room with them, right where Victoria was.
"That's funny, the things saying something foreign is in this room," he remarked.
Victoria looked sheepishly at him. She stood up and nibbled at her lip. Confused, Aaron glanced at her.
"Is something the matter?" he asked.
"Put your hand on my stomach," she requested, avoiding the question.
"What?"
"Put your hand on my stomach," she said a little firmer.
Raising his hand slowly, Aaron placed it on Victoria's flat belly. At first, he thought she was over reacting some more. That is, until he felt the skin move.
His hand jerked back in shock and he shouted, "What the hell was that?!"
Still not answering him, she simply opened her mouth. She gagged as a black tentacle poked out of her mouth then slithered back in.
"Vic, I...I don't understand..." he said, dumbfounded.
"Just, don't, okay. I thought you would have remembered, but you must have Somno Tumultu or something. Don't you remember why were on this ship? It's because these alien things got lose the other and started attacking people. We had to escape and I kept telling you to leave me. Well? You know why I told you that? It's because I'm one of them!"
His mind tried to grasp what was going on. Wait, that wasn't a dream? What was that thing? What happen?
"Just...Just don't come after me, alright," Victoria said, tears beginning to stream down her face. She whipped them away and ran out of the room.
"Wait, Victoria! Come back," shouted Aaron.
Running into the hall, he quickly searched around for her. Miraculously, she had vanished before he could even back himself up. In the dim lighting, he couldn't see a thing. So, almost blindly, he walked down the hall. Something shifted behind him and he quickly whipped around.
"Vic?" he called out.
The reply didn't come in the form of words, but in a screech. A dark creature jumped on him. It pinned down his arms and legs, holding them to the ground. Though he tried to thrash to get free, it failed. The creature used its long tail to push up his shirt and expose his bare belly. In fear that it was planning to eat him, he thrash faster, only causing the thing to practically crush his limbs. He winced and hissed in pain. Bring its head down, the monster brought its face to his belly. He could feel its cold breath brush over his skin, it was enough to give him goose bumps. There was a slurping sound and Aaron glanced down. A black tentacle, much like the one Victoria had showed him, crawled out of the monster mouth. It dove right into his belly button and he winced. Unable to take it all in, Aaron passed out.
A cold breeze woke Aaron and he found himself lying on the floor in the medical room. He glanced around the room and saw Victoria strapped to the wall with wires and some strange material. Her head laid rolled to one side and she seemed to be unconscious. Unconcerned for his safety, he rushed over to her and tried to untangle the knots. In all his jerking and pulling, he woke her.
"No...Stop..." she muttered at him.
"I can't leave you like this, it's not right," he said.
There was a screech behind him and Aaron turned around right as the alien's tail slammed into his side. He was rammed into a wall and coughed hard. The alien grabbed him by the arm and threw him into another wall. Aaron spit blood and weakly tried to stand up. The alien growled and charged at him with its head, pushing him hard into the wall again and knocking the air from his lungs. He curled up on the ground and gasped like a fish for air.
As the alien prepared to kill him with its tail when Victoria yelled fearfully, "Stop! Leave him alone!"
The alien stopped, tilting its head. It walk over to her. The alien purred like a cat and affectionately nuzzled her belly. It lifted up her tank top and lightly poked inside her navel with its long tongue, causing her to shudder. It pushed the tentacle in deeper, making her gasp and arched. The creature removed its tongue, satisfied, and it left.
"Aaron?" she whispered shouted. "Aaron? Are you alright?"
He moaned and pulled himself off the floor. Though he shook as he stood, Aaron wiped away the blood on his face and stumbled towards Victoria. No matter what got in his way, he was determined to help her.
"No, get out of here, save yourself!" she hissed at him.
As men often do, he ignored her. He tore at the strange material and wire that stuck her to the haul of the ship and carefully lowered her to the ground. She scowled and pulled away from his hands. She stumbled a little and braced herself against the wall.
"Just stop, Aaron," Victoria demanded, "You need to get off this ship so I can blast it to kingdom come."
"Vic I can't, I-ahg!" he grasped his stomach and hunched over.
A massive wave of pain rocked his body and he dropped to his knee. He felt sick to his stomach and though for sure he felt something move around in that area.
Dropping down to her knees, Victoria quickly questioned him, "Aaron? Aaron? Can you hear me? What's wrong?"
"N-No...Something...Inside," he choked out.
Her eyes widened and she asked him more, "Did the alien come in contact with your stomach?"
"Y-eh...Yes..."
Gently, she slipped her hand under his shirt and felt where he was hold. Nothing seemed to be the matter until she felt his skin bulge outward. Aaron groaned and clenched tighter, almost crushing her hand. She pulled it out quickly, panicking.
"I need to get it out, but how?" she asked herself. Conveniently, an idea came to mind.
"Aaron, lay down."
"Wah?"
"Just lay down."
He obeyed and still pressed his hand against his belly. She tried to move it away, but he hastily brought it back. So, she pulled of off quick and pressed her hand against it. This eased his pain slightly and he relax, though sweat still trickled down the side of his face. Victoria's stomach knotted as she thought of what she hand to do to remove the thing from inside Aaron. It was either that or let the thing pop out and he bleeds to death. This option was not one she wanted to happen. Instead, she bit her lip and started.
Lifting up his shirt, she kept applying light pressure just above his navel. Clutching her stomach, she forced the tentacle tongue to crawl up her throat and out her mouth. Victoria gaged, but fought the urge to choke it down. Lowering her head and she focused hard. As her mouth opened, the tentacle slithered out and shook as it went into Aaron's bellybutton. She cringed, feeling his muscles move at the push of the tentacle now that it was within him. It was at that moment Victoria realised she didn't know how to find the alien. Just as she was about to pull out and give up, she felt a tingling sensation when she move the appendage in a certain direction. Shifting it again, the sensation got strong. Following it, the feeling grew and grew until she wrapped around something and began to pull. Aaron gasped and convulsed as the partly developed alien was ripped out of him. It was carelessly tossed away.
Even though he was freed from the most of the pain, Aaron laid on the ground and didn't get up. His eyes were closed and Victoria freaked out again. She pressed her head to his chest and listened. The beat of his heart shook her head and she breathed a sigh of relief. Getting up, she softly kissed him on the forehead and quietly left the room. She traveled to the ship's controls to do what he wouldn. It took her a moment looking through the colorful buttons before she finally found the distress signal and left.
