Drifting in the void of space was the the miner ship, the Kessler. It was massive compared to many of the other planet crackers and housed quadruple the people that a normal cracker held. This ship was not a cracker though, it was a maintenance and science ship built to fix cracker ships and develop new tech for the ships. Normally, the the life on the ship was bland and uneventful. However, this day was going to be the most memorable day for the crew of the Kessler and also the most horrifying...

Michal, security maintenance admin on the ship, woke up inside his cabin. He sat up and sleepily itched his belly, dipping his finger into the divot a little. Chuckling, he pulled on his uniform. He yanked up his dark blue pants, button up his matching shirt, tied his black boots and headed to his station. As his feet clanked on the metal floor of the spaceship, he hummed a tune to himself.

On the other end of the ship, Lora, a scientist on the Kessler, woke up in her lab. Her face was covered in papers and a pen had glued itself to her forehead. She quickly pulled them off and sighed sadly. Another unsuccessful all-nighter in the lab. Though she had run through the lab experiment several times, there still had been no new results.  An egg, one that someone had found on an alien planet, still hadn't not opened no matter what she did to it. Chemicals, radiation, power tools, electricity, nothing. As she rubbed her eyes, she spotted Michal walk by doing his morning rounds. Weakly, she waved a tired hello.

He noticed her and waved back. Though he knew he should be walking to the security post , Michal decided to take a detour and visit Lora.  It was possible she had made progress on the egg, and if she did, he wanted to see what dwelt inside.

The security guard  turned around and walk into the lab. As soon as he saw Lora up close, he knew it was bad new. Messed up hair, the dark  rings under her eyes, and a pen print on her forehead, all them told him what he needed to know.

"Jeez, Lora, get any sleep last night?" asked Michal jokingly.

Glancing over at the alien egg in its glass case, he stepped over to it. Using his nightstick, he poked the glass, trying to excite either the egg or Lora. She yawned loudly and rubbed her eyes, unbothered by his actions.

"Bang that glass all you want, that stupid thing won't hatch. I spent half the night monkeying around with it. I'm better off dropping a rock on it," she said frustrated.

Lora sluggishly started to shuffle through the papers on her desk like a sloth. She yawned again, her eyes drooping. The scientist propped her chin on her elbow, sighing sadly. A few strands of mousey brown hair drifting into her eyes and she puffed them away.

"Maybe I will drop a rock on it...Eh, I doubt I'll be able to get away with saying that was part of the experiment," she said with a weak grin.

Michal laughed and commented, "Maybe you were testing the density to an outside force and it just so happened that the outside stimuli had crushed the egg?"

     "Something like that, ya..."

This wasn't going anywhere and Michal knew it. He knew what would cheer her up, and hell, he knew she loved it. It was something they had done for quite sometime and had taken Michal months to get the guts to do it. Late at night, he came down to her lab and convinced Lora to play with his belly button. The first time they were both shy about, but after a while, they both began to enjoy it. Every few nights he'd slide out of his room and come down to her lab. She would do a few thing such as stick stirring rod in, pulling with tongs, stroking with a scrub brush, or what ever little thing she could find. He few times he asked if she would like the favor returned, but she declined most of the offer.

Not caring that it wasn't night and also wanting to raise Lora's spirits, he started preparing. Michal looked around outside the lab.  It was too early for people to be active, so they were in the clear.  Casually, Michal sat down on an examination table and faced Lora. He lifted up his shirt, showing his tight deep innie belly button. Blissfully unaware of what her friend was doing, Lore turned to say something to Michal and saw the exposed navel. Her eyes grew wide in surprize, then darted around real quick, checking for any prying eyes spying on them. All the other scientist had gone to bed late and wouldn't be coming in to much late. The coast was clear.

Now knowing that they were safe, Lora rolled over in her chair. Plucking a pencil from behind her ear, she inserted the erase side it into Michal's belly button. She did quick circles, probing around the insides.  The eraser went around and around, being pushed hard and light with each round. Michal grunted, grinning while he watched her play. Flipping the pencil around and being gently, she used the pointed end to itch the center of the navel and watch Michal's eyes light up. He shifted his shoulders and stretched, feeling the graphite lightly stab the sensitive skin of his navel.

"You always know how to get me going," she teased.

A smile spread across Michal's face and he gave a quiet moan, enough for Lora to hear.

"Oh yea I do...I've just known you for too long is all," he said with a smirk. "But that isn't a bad thing either."

He leaned into the pencil, feeling the point dig into his navel knot. Another moan drifted out of his lips and Lora felt a thin smile grow on her face.

While the two were distracted, they didn't know that the egg was slowly stirring, ready to hatch. The green shell bulged and warped. What ever was inside was choosing this moment to be free.

Lora kept on pressing with the pencil and digging in Michal navel. She giggle at his moans, making her push and itch around harder. Every time she spotted a crease at the bottom of the pit, she couldn't help but have her pencil follow the trail.

Breaking the sounds of moaning, something crack and Lora stopped a moment to listen where it was coming from. After first, she thought it was Michal's back, but when she glanced at him he shook his head. Pulling the pencil out of Michal's belly button, she turned her ear towards the sound. When she was just about to get up and check the egg, the power went out. The room was pitch black a moment until the red emergency lights turned on.

"Those blasted wrench monkeys have screwed with the power again," she groan under her breath.

Unhappy that his fun was over and the power was out, Michal sighed.  He shifted and slide off the examination table. The guard adjusted his uniform, pulling his shirt down to look as though nothing had happened.

"Damn, scientists must be siphoning power again," muttered Michal. "No offense Lora."

Now full aware of the problem at hand, Lora and Michal prepared to find the electrical box. Taking flashlights and a couple tools, the two left the safety of the lab to brave the halls. Very few people were up, and those that were, used the loss of power to get some extra sleep in. They knew this wasn't major, just a small blow out that meant power on an a few decks. It happen daily. Just another part of living on the Kessler.

Arriving at the box attached to the wall, Michal wasn't that surprised to see no one working on it.

"Now I'm security, but I'm pretty sure you have reset this baby more times than I have," Michal said, looking at the large box.

Lora stuck her head into the electrical box and said in a muffled voice, "Just give me a sec..."

Suddenly, there was a loud crash from down the corridor. Lora's head flew out and she banged it in the process. She let out a curse, rubbing her sore skull.

"What ever that was, I need you to go check it out," Lora explain through a clenched jaw. "I need to fix the damn fuse so we can see what ever made that noise."

Michal sighed and walked back towards the laboratory. He almost arrive at his destination when he got distracted.  There was a moaning in pain coming from a different hall near by and he decided to investigate. Only a few meters away on the ground laid a male scientist rubbing his stomach and groaning. His shirt was pulled up and Michal could see his belly button was red and had a few drops of blood trickling out of it.

"Hey, are you okay, man? What happen to you?" Michal asked, shocked.

""I...I don't know. I heard a crash and went to check it out. When I got there, I felt something crawl up my pant leg and onto my stomach. I thought it was a roach and went to smash it. But just as I did, it wormed its way into my navel and disappeared. Suddenly, I got light headed and fell," explained the man, rubbing the side of his face. "You don't think it could have been..."

The scientist stared off in a daze. Michal wanted to ask more, but the lights flickered and turned back on. Running down the hall, Lora jogged over with a proud smile that disappeared when she saw the man on the ground. She instantly demanded an explanation. The story was retold, causing Lora to twist her face in disgust in hearing that the bug crawled into his navel. By the end of the story, she shook her head in dismay.

"Okay, I'll take you to sick bay and check it out," she told the man. She turned to Michal and asked him, "Can you look over the lab and see what happened?"

He smiled and nodded. The two parted, Lora with the man and Michal to the lab. He searched around the medium size room, seeing lab notes on the bug and not much else. He peered at the egg and noticed a hole in the back of it. When Lora arrived, he shook his head.

"It appears our alien guest has escaped," Michal said, pointing to the broken shell and the hole in the  case. "Do you think that alien went into his belly or was it just a crazy roach?"

Lora shuddered, "I don't know what's going on. He had a hole in his navel that appear to be cause by something small. It was so weird..."

"In his navel? That's strange" Michal said.

Though he knew this disgusted Lora, to him, it sound interesting having something crawl around in his navel. He had tried it before with small roaches, but they mostly ran off his belly in fear. To have a small bug actually crawl into his belly button, to have it push in deep and dig around, that sounded like a real good time to Michal.

Lora hugged her belly, thinking of what it'd be like if that happen to her. Just the thought of it made her skin crawl, but she was slightly curious what it really felt like. Then again, she didn't particularly like the idea of something crawling into her belly button and then into her.

"I just hope that things doesn't get us..."

All of a sudden, there was a terrified yell outside the lab in a near by corridor. Lora almost jumped out of her skin, her face turning white. Michal heard it too and told Lora to stay in the lab. She wanted him to stay, but he reassured her everything would be fine. Even though Michal knew he possibly was lying to Lora, it was better than her flipping out. Once he closed the door, Michal followed the sounds.

When he walked down a hall, he saw the one scientist from earlier. He was pinning down another woman scientist and exposing her belly button. His belly button appeared to be moving, like a mouth or like something was fighting its way out. A bug-thing crawled out of the one scientist navel and dropped onto the other's belly. She thrashed around madly, trying to get the thing off. It didn't work well. The beetle held on tight, scurried towards the panicking woman's navel, and dove in. She gasped, arched her back. The bug wormed around, pushing deeper into her belly button. While this happen, the male scientist let go and started to stumble off like a zombie. The 'infected' person convulsed and passed out.

Michal went wide-eyed in horror. He couldn't believe what he just saw. To add to the strange scene, he watched as the scientist on the ground got up and began to shuffled around. She madly fingered her navel, moaning and staring at it with a strange smile.

Seeing enough of this, Michal quickly jogged back to the lab, slammed the door shut, and locked it. Lora bolt up in the seat, having just fallen asleep, and glanced at Michal foggy-eyed. Just by the way he was breathing was enough to make her stomach tighten. What he was about to say next would rock her world.

"Okay Lora...We are, um...apparently facing ourselves with a belly button bug that zombifies people," Michal explained, trying to keep a straight face and not freak Lora out more.

Lora grasped her face in shock. Her mind raced on what to do, but none of her plans ended well. Some involved kill the people on the ship who were infected, crashing the whole ship into a sun, or her using her self as bait to lure the people into a vacuum lock to shoot them into space. None of these she wanted to do, but deep down, Lora knew something drastic would have to be done. Though it was only two infected people so far, she didn't know how fast it'd be before this became an epidemic.

"I have to help those people," she stated. "We have no idea what those things are doing to their host and we certainly don't want them spreading."

She thought a moment and caught an idea.

"Maybe if I used some of the chemicals in the lab and the medical room, I can work on a way of getting rid of those crawly monsters," Lora thought out loud.

"You really wanna risk going out there with those things?  Let me tell ya, from what I saw, they aren't human," Michal said, rubbing his stomach. "God that looked painful, but the person was moaning."

"If we move quickly, they shouldn't be able to get us," Lora said and grabbing some supplies and a piece of the shell. "Let's get going."

Stepping out, Lora briskly walks towards the medical room, keeping her eyes down. They transverse the halls with easy. Though there may have been nothing there, the moans of distant navel zombies and the terrifed cries of the crew echoed through the Kessler. Lora and Michal cringed each time they heard a scream of someone getting infect, but the two kept on their mission. They got to the room and Michal used an override code to shut the doors. For a minute, they could breath. Lora scanned the room: not a soul in sight. She quickly ran over to some microscopes. The chunk of shell was stuck under one and Lora began to study it.

"You might want to get some shut eye, this is going to be a while," she told him.

Michal agreed and sat down in a chair. He leaned back, closed his eyes, and drifted to sleep. For the next two hours, while running on empty, Lora worked on a formula to kill the bugs and turn the people back to normal. It took her a while, but she did find something she thought would work. Satisfied with her work and too tied to worry, Lora passed out.

An hour later, Michal woke. He saw Lora laying back in the chair passed out. A small grew on his face as he walked over to Lora and pushed  up her shirt. He  saw her innie belly button was a little red, but no hole, so she wasn't infected. He knew that is was because she had been fingering it while thinking. Anytime she thought hard or got stressed in the lab she would dig at her navel like crazy. That was what first key him in on her fetish.

A bigger smile crept on his face as he got an idea. He took a small stirring stick from the counter, jabbed it into her belly button, and swirled it around hard. Lora jump to life and freaked out, sure that the bugs were trying to get her. As she bolted up, she tripped, and landed on Michal, who still had the stir stick suck in her belly button. She laid on his chest and glared at him.

"You stinker," she snorted and got up. Lora help Michal up and poked his belly. "Are you rested?"

"Rest as I'll ever be," Michal replied, "and what about the stuff to kill the bugs?"

Lora rubbed her eyes and yawned loudly, "I have no idea if it will work. If I can get my hands on a test subject, then I can find out."

She knew what she'd have to do to get one of the zombies, but didn't like the thought of it. Lora imagined herself baiting one of the zombies, waving her vulnerable belly around and leading one back. If she screwed up, she'd get infected and everyone would be doomed. She looked at the door and sighed.

"In order for me to find a cure, I need one of those zombies. Wait at the door until I get back," Lora explained and stepped towards the door.

Michal grabbed her by her shoulder and spun her around. He sat her in a chair and looked down at her. She glanced up at him, gray rings still under her eyes.

"Oh hell no, I'm not letting you go out there. Remember that video chat we had with your parents? I promised them I would protect you from danger. I'll go out there and lead one here, but I'm not letting you go anywhere," Michal told her seriously.

He smiled and walked to the door.

"I saw what those things do to people, I don't want that to happen to you," he said quietly. "Just say in this room and don't worry about me."

Lora wanted to objected, but Michal had already shut the door and locked it. She sigh and sat anxiously in the chair. A minute passed and her eyelids began to grow heavy. Though she fought it, Lora couldn't stop her body from putting her into hibernation. Her head rest in her palm while her elbow propped it up. Lora's eyes closed and stayed closed.
