this is real nice Ben I've been sitting here trying to figure out how this was done. I can see some sort of flip in the sky, but what blew me away is how the ray comes up thru at the bottom that is amazingly well done. and the clouds have a sort of oilpainted look to them.

The flipped clouds are correct. The ray was a gradient drawn on a layer just above the cloud one, then I went in with eraser and cut away the spaces in the beam. The "oilpanted look" probably comes from the fact that I tweaked the color of the the clouds with curves, and then duplicated the layer and applied zoom blur deluxe (I don't remember what blend mode I used though).
That's how I did it in a nutshell, the hardest part was making the beam look right.

good use of all the tech tools especially the zoom on the second layer. I must experiment with that. zoom is a tool i don't use often enough.
