holy crap this answers so much. I was wondering why my sketchings all looked super distorted but super epic at the same time.Β

A calmΒ  sketch of a cabinet looked like 300's last stand on the edge of the abyss

They do!
I'm looking forward to the book you're making.
I can't belive it's going to be free. Are you still going to print it? I mean could I get a printed copy if I paid for it?

I'm not selling printed copies, but it'll be a free PDF file, so you could print it at home if you wanted, or take it to a copy center. Although, be aware it's probably going to be around 150 pages.Β

Thanks ^^

The whole 90 degree thing... why have I never seen it before anywhere else?! It is easy to understand and easy to remember!
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! ;_;

Right!? I can remember my first art classes in community college that introduced 2 point perspective, but the teacher literally said to the students to just accept that the piece will look distorted (because we placed both vanishing point inside the composition). Lame. -_-

Glad you found it helpful.

It's not even the distortion... it's just this "set vanishing points 3 meters away from your table! Doesn't matter how to do that practically, just do it!" D: What a terrible thing. Thus, you are amazing for sharing this much more practical and easier to handle principle! ^^
I also remember once seeing some method using architect ruler, where one could set something like marks for perspective lines on canvas' border, without establishing vanishing points as such. I don't remember that method particularly well though, and it still did not really address on how to decide on field of view and such.

I'm studying perspective, and distorsion happen for two reasons:
First, in reality we see objects slightly curved, second, when we practice perspective, we should put the object at least 3 meters away from us, or it would look weird.
I often put object at 2 meter away from me, and now when I draw perspective by eye, I exaggerated perspective.
I often don't take math in account, so your tutorial was really useful to me.

To me, the more complex is perspective, the more it makes sense.
But in reality, if you want to spend time, you can build any perspective by using just the one point perspective. You just need to rotate the object.

I never understand the cone of vision, I tend to think more about our slighty fish eye perception. I will surely use your tops!

Definitely there's more than one way to think about perspective. Mark's Drawing Tutorials over on youtube:Β www.youtube.com/user/moatddtut… for example talks a lot more about the 'fisheye' distortion and he even curves his horizon line!

For somebody that is at his early stage 8in perspective), everything is useful. Once I will understand perspective, i can choose what does apply better on me.
I'll look on your link, thank you (also for your tutorials)
