Description
Ten miles from Denver, Tic is putting the finishing touches on Project R. Setting the scalpel aside, he plucks the mask from his face and studies his work carefully. It has taken him years of practice, failure, and tears, but he's finally done it. He's finally succeeded. Two bitten, torn ears poke from the top of her freshly shaven head. A large, rounded muzzle replaces her human nose. Tic wonders, vaguely, if her eyes, closed right now from the anesthesia, will glow red in the dark. He imagines they might; if the serum works, she'll even sprout whiskers within a few weeks.
Looking down at her bruised face, Tic grins. His colleagues at the lab will call it a monster. A freak of science and too much time. He's bound to have his license revoked, but he's okay with that. He's managed his dream; he's done what many said was impossible.
They're bound to call it morbid. He's going to call her Rachel.

this is definitely a different take from how i used this prompt, hahah. i really like it. it kind of reminds me of my favorite book, Dogs Of Babel...except in the opposite, in the book, they try to make the dog more human-like. anyway, i really like this =]

Thank you sweetie! I don't think I've seen two stories take on a prompt in the same way yet, which is excellent--the prompts this year are wonderful! I'll have to give your take a read through here soon!

Thank you! There is a bit of a depressing note to this, I agree. But mostly, it's just disturbing.

You hit one of my squeamish areas, I just want you to know that. You should feel special.
(pssst... you switch tenses in the last few lines)

You pretty much did. There are only a handful of things that make me squirm. Compared to the things that don't it's a pretty odd list, but yep. This is one of them. Good on you
