Description
"For the Fairest One" - The Apple of DiscordI'm not going insane, actually this is Greek Mythology
Just read and you'll find out...
Eris is the Greek goddess of discord and strife. She is sinister and mean, and her greatest joy is to make trouble. She has a golden apple that is so bright and shiny everybody wants to have it. When she throws it among friends, their friendship come to a rapid end. When she throws it among enemies, war breaks out, for the golden apple of Eris is the Apple of Discord.
It is recounted that Zeus held a banquet in celebration of the marriage of Peleus and Thetis (who would become the parents of Achilles). Eris, goddess of discord, was uninvited (guess why
Three goddesses claimed the apple: Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. They asked Zeus to judge which of them was fairest, and eventually Zeus, reluctant to favor any claim himself, (he was definitely NOT stupid
Thus it happened that with Hermes as their guide all three of the candidates appeared to Paris on Mount Ida. Each one attempted with her powers to bribe Paris; Hera offered to make him king of Europe and Asia, Athena offered wisdom and skill in war, and Aphrodite offered the love of the world's most beautiful woman. This was Helen of Sparta, wife of the Greek King Menelaus.
Paris accepted Aphrodite's gift and awarded the apple to her, receiving Helen as well as the enmity of the Greeks and especially of Hera. The Greeks' expedition to retrieve Helen from Paris in Troy is the mythological basis of the Trojan War.
Not bad for a fruit, isn't it?

Not only is it in Greek mythology.... it was in the story of Snow White... you know the queen says"Mirror Mirror on the wall whos the fairest of them all" and then the mirror says "snow white" to the queen and she turns into the evil witch and she gives her a poisoned APPLE! WOW YOU ROCK!

You're absolutely RIGHT! How could I forget about Snow White ?!?! Well I can easily understand her eating it, how can you resist to an apple like THAT?
So glad you like the pic and the mythology behind it! Actually I find it fascinating, most of all the fact gods with their behaviour portray every human feeling although amplified in an absurd way. They have lots of whimsy and are able to do wars for just nothing. Sometimes they look like ridicolous but actually I think they represent the human kind better then men themselves because of their absurd acting: they let us easily recognize our feeling and understand them
Thank for the aswell!

I think your right! I love the greek mythology sooo much. I'm really into ancient cultures. My favorite is ancient Egypt though. I'm almost obsessed with their culture. Anyways my favorite greek god is Artemis, because she has a twin (Apollo) and shes good at archery! Yeah girl power!
