Whoa.. this image is superbly shot... the lighting effects draw out a feeling of intense atmosphere.....
we get the perspective of the guy opposite the table....and see the relaxed smug hands of the appoinant....

Thanks very much. IMO, this image relied on the lighting...without it, it's just a family game of cards, but the lighting brings atmosphere and mood. I continue to find lighting the foundation of a good photo...

The composition of this is what I like best--everything is balanced perfectly, with just the cards off to the side a left a bit and in the center of your attention. If you edited out or toned down the small round splotch on the left, near the wrist (watch reflection?), this could make a nifty print.
It reminds me of when I used to play games with my oldest brother, before he moved out of the house...only there was less smoking involved then, fortunately. :รพ

My oldest brother also smokes, so I know how you feel. For as much as our parents let us get away with, I'm glad they never let him smoke inside the house.

The crisp bills look super, especially with the lighting. I also like the fact that only his hands are lit, and nothing else on his body.

No... The bad thing is I've won the past 3 nights in a row... I won 23 bucks in total. I figured it was my turn to lose. Not everything, I only put in 5 bucks a game... but still. Actually I want to enter the World Poker Tour, or The Poker Challenge in Vegas next year. Save up 2 or 3 grand and just see how far I get, Just for fun. I think it would be a blast even if I lose.
