Description

It is a regrettably widely-perpetuated myth that deserts do not receive much rain.
For the title I also considered "Desert Storm" and "Fall Festival," but they didn't sound stupid enough when I said them.

Thank you! This started as a pencil drawing, and I have been trying to incorporate more of those into my newer work, since much of my output was exclusively digital for a while.

oh no problem! I used to start off with pencil and paper then move it to digital, but now that I've gotten the hang of all-digital art it's easier.

Hmm well I've been stuck in bed sick all week and haven't had any brilliant ideas, so maybe it doesn't work for everyone!

This sort of subject matter is common for me so it is hard to determine a specific point of inspiration, but I do know that for the pencil sketch this is based on, I was in a very boring bar, since at the time my brother was working there and I was visiting for some reason I have forgotten. I think having free time and minimal stimuli were the prime factors.

I had to look up who that is! But indeed it is a play on "umbrage."
Thank you! I have not had ideas like this for some time.

That's a very interesting concept, it's very well done and, if you allow me to say, quite funny the idea of a pumpkin rain.

I love the humor here and that stoic frown on the focal character gives him so much personality, along with his very detailed fashion. That "falling pumpkin" sign really sells this piece. Awesome work!

Wow, it still boggles my mind how you can make something loose look so detailed at the same time. I gotta say your painting style is quite unique. The way you apply strokes I just find very appealing. Even pics like this where the contrast is very subtle, your value transitions work well.

Well gee thank you! I don't reckon you are easily boggled. I tend to drop in a bit of color and then smear it around. Not much like painting at all, really! Though perhaps unique, I think I limit the results I can get by using it on a whole image. I always forget how much more easily I can bring in smooth colors by switching to photoshop or gimp or what-have-you.

How can someone who can control the weather use so few puns while talking? You're not fit to control any force of nature.

I hope that umbrella is made of something more powerful than plastic... This is an inventive picture; I especially enjoy the fact that the character's face is so calm and stoic..while it rains pumpkins around him. His clothing design, too, is all kinds of awesome.

Ah, thank you once more! You really are too kind. It's inexcusable!
The umbrellor was meant to appear metallic, but knowing the fools who appear in my imagery they might be satisfied to paint a plastic umbrella in metal colors, so your concern is valid.
I have great fondness for this expression; it can communicate scorn, indifference, ennui, even contentment, or any combination of them in a very small amount of lines. I reckon I ripped it off of Gary Larson to some extent, who would often give characters a horizontal line where their eyes should be if no specific emotion was required. I use it in my drawings often, though not this gallery so much. not recently, anyhow.
