Description Soundwave (and any other Transformers that turn into tape decks/boomboxes/similar audio stuff) have a problem: Their G1 alt-modes, while iconic, are kinda dated now that people don't really use tapes (or any physical storage media) that much anymore (though I hear that tapes seem to be coming back into vogue like records have), so they now typically turn into bland, boring cars (with some exceptions; there have been post-G1 Soundwaves and Blasters that turn into jets, spaceships, satellites, comms trucks, drones, tablets, laptops, rocket carriers, tanks, motorbikes, concert stages, MP3 players, hovercrafts, and, yes, even tape decks/boomboxes). I have several ideas for alternative alt-modes for Soundwave (submarines, game consoles, cellphones, samplers, synthesizers, helicopters, etc.), and this one is supposed to depict the robot mode of of one that has a DJ turntable alt-mode. This mode was partially inspired by a concept someone else had of a steampunk-era Soundwave who turned into a phonograph, partially by Cybertron Soundwave's DJ-type personality, partially by the Generations: Fall of Cybertron data disc toys, and partially by the disc-shaped Minicons present in Robots In Disguise 2015. I probably won't be able to draw the alt-mode of this one and have it make any sense and look good, but I'm a fanartist, not a toy designer. It'll be fine. Besides, I think you can probably imagine what his alt-mode is supposed to look like on your own. The robots that would normally transform into cassettes now turn into record-like discs, their disc and label colors (the labels would be a bit more complex if I knew how to draw, but I don't, so...) coming from the appearances of the G1 cassettes. The discs would go onto the turntables on his shoulders, and whenever he wanted to send one out into robot form, he'd take the disc off, then throw it like a sort of weird chakram/Poké Ball combination. Also, since mixing is an important part of DJing (and no, radio/wedding/whatever "DJs" don't count; if you don't mix music, you aren't a real DJ, you're a dumbass who acts as a biological playlist and makes idiotic jokes, and if you even THINK that's anywhere near what folks like Grandmaster Flash and Daft Punk did, then you deserve to die a horrible death), I have this idea where the discs he equips give him different abilities and different combinations of discs can give him even more abilities than single discs (maybe the current ability would be reflected by the little laptop to the right of his head). I think I might draw some more discs (probably the ones Blaster would have (Maybe I'll even draw a version of Blaster who's like this) and ones from other continuities) later.
