In general you want to try not to have a slant to the letters, that would be more along the lines of italic calligraphy. Often I've shown variations of letters, keep in mind when making your piece that nothing you do is "incorrect" just that there are styles that will fit better with what you are trying to achieve. Don't be afraid to add in flairs and flourishes when you need to- these have a dual purpose of adding elegance to your piece and working as a tool to balance your line lengths
I didn't take too much care when assembling the pages into one picture file, I'm sorry about that. That really isn't my forte and I don't know enough about the program itself to make the pages bend seamlessly. There are 4 8 and a half by 11 sheets of paper together, scanned and put together, though I may have cut off the sides of the pages a bit.
Enjoy, and please let me know if you have any questions!

There are essentially 3 types of pens in this category. The first is a standard fountain pen, which will not work for this. The second is a dip pen you can find at Michaels, which may or may not work for this. To find one that does, you need to make sure it has a *flat edge*. The less give and bend, the better. The longer the flat edge the larger the letters, of course. The third kind is a pretty unique set of pens by Pilot, they're the ones I used for this. I have all four of the ones they made initially, though I do believe they came out with three more recently. You can find them by searching for "Pilot Parallel ___" with the blank being the size you want. They come in 1.5mm, 2.4mm, 3.8mm, and 6mm (plus the three new sizes that I don't have). They should be about 10 dollars each, not more than 11. Make sure you get a converter with them, or cartridges. If you buy them new they'll come with one in the case and instructions for refilling, but obviously you'll save on shipping if you get it all in one go.
If you do want to get it and you're confused about getting ink/cartridges/converters shoot me a PM and I'll send you a few links, I dont want to post it here in case it violates TOU.

Interesting and nicely detailed, although I think adding guide lines will make it more helpful, especially for anyone who hasn't been writing with these characters all their life.
Thanks for uploading it.

Hmm that's probably a good idea. I've just always done my work with the guide sheets in the back, and I did the same thing here out of habit. One thing I can suggest to you and anyone else feeling as you do is uploading this onto photoshop or paint or whatever it is and overlaying the grid onto it. That should give you a better idea of the spacing.
Best, and hope it works

Well, I didn't mean that for myself; I can see where the guide lines should go, but others may not. In the same way that a native English speaker learning Chinese calligraphy would have trouble seeing the correct proportions for a character's parts. Just a thought.

Do you know where I could buy one of those pens? I'd like to learn how to write like this, but I have no idea where to start.
