Rift is a disease called Onchocerecasis, also known as the river viruse, that causes blindness. Rift's kind are Onchocercavolvulus, a parastic worm. (hence the reason she has no legs) Rift is part blind, she wears the blindfold so her eyes don't scare others. However, her eyes are also a deadly weapon, espeicaly if your a cell. By looking into her eyes one become permantly blind or turned into what is the equivalince of stone. This scares her greatly so she panics if her blindfold is removed. Virues are unaffected by her eyes.
