Description
Old BlueI stood there, outside the gate,
waiting for the bus by two girls I sort of knew,
but thought about the old dorm, Hamill,
and the trees I never climbed.
The hammock built for two that we napped in four-deep.
The lawn out front,
littered with sticks and holly leaves
that would prick our bare feet in the fall,
as we wrestled the Dean's Labrador, and each other,
and life's mysteries in the grass.
The wooden benches, where we sat and sang in untrained harmony
as we waited for burgers to grill,
and cursed and laughed and whistled at girls.
The girls we loved.
I stood there, outside the gate, wordless,
and thought about how they've changed hands now,
and how the fall was too brisk.
