Description
The tea in front of meIs sweet, like its maker
Served in a cup
With blue and yellow blossoms
Painted on
The cup was part of a wedding gift
From I don't know how long ago
I remember that wedding
We laughed a lot
But then again
We laughed at everybody's weddings
I lift my gaze to the eyes of my friend
Sitting across from me, holding a cup
That matches mine
"I miss him," I say softly
"I miss all of them."
It's true
I miss my husband
I miss my brother
I miss my dear friends
I miss them all
"That's good," says my friend
Her face sweet and sad
"You still care,
We both still care."
I give a small smile
"Yes. We still care
After all, that was our job."
My friend laughs
Her tears nearly spilling over
"Of course it was.
Our job was to make a nice meal and a soft bed for them to come home to."
"To heal them, to laugh with them, to smile with them, and to cry for them."
My voice chokes
And a tear
Falls into my tea
"I miss them too."
My friend places her soft hand
Over mine
Neither of our hands are hard
We never had to wield a weapon
Or kill
We're both crying now
Looking at each other's faces
We see lines in them
Born of our years of loving
"My tea's cold by now."
"So is mine."

Well done. I like how the tea was put into this. And the lines "But then again/ We laughed at everybody's weddings."
