Description And this is our first, massively inadequate look at who and what the Kinnah are.  It'll be a little while before Vale gets to meet any of that species and this definitely isn't the introduction to that half of his bloodline that he was looking for, but hey.  At least he's got his snark.

I feel like Kinnah might already be kinda a slave race...
I feel like they are viewed as lesser life forms and valued less.
I feel like i'm overthinking this.
._.

You're not really overthinking it.

The Kinnah and Valhallans are in the middle of a particularly nasty war.

The Valhallans have basically decreed that the war only ends when the entire race is enslaved or wiped out.

...The Kinnah have similar views, only they don't believe in slavery, so there you go.

This gets explained a bit later on.  Vale, Harlem, and Comcadde are all basically huge country bumpkins too, so they don't have the full context of what's going on either, although they sure think they do.

Alas, the humans have this pesky quality of wanting to live.

So both sides think the other is the evil spawn of satan and must be purged from the world.

I mean, in their defense, both sides have a long history of being oppressed and treated as lesser life forms by the elves, who ruled the continent previously.  It's practically cultural heritage at this point.

...Plus, the war has gone on for long enough that both sides have committed unforgivable atrocities.  It's not blind hatred; it is very, very based on reality.  There are very few places where anyone thinks reconciliation is possible, and the only reason they have managed to persist is because they're hidden in remote locations where the prevailing armies can't get to them and Change Their Minds.
