Description What can I say it's been a pretty long time in the making. Between various redesigns, engine swaps, retexturing there was also me learning a hell of a lot of new stuff, the experience has been an epic one

Vehicle is created as a mod for Carmageddon Reincarnation so I did have to follow some limits of the cars that are in the game. The car is built to be smashed to bits and therefore has a good number of detachable parts

Thanks to SuperStar-Stock  for the broken glass texture (which will only be seen once the windshield is damaged in-game, but credit where credit is due)

Cool. It looks like hell of work.

Thanks a lot At the time it was quite a lot of work indeed!

I hate the retopology/ retexturing part where you bake a whole geometry in to simpler models. That kills me.

Bloodstability In reply to QNAMAN [2017-04-11 22:35:59 +0000 UTC]

This  particular model didn't have any baked details but yeah it can be a tedious process depending on the kind of mesh you are working with, you just have to do it a lot and it becomes pretty painless

QNAMAN In reply to Bloodstability [2017-04-11 22:45:40 +0000 UTC]

I guess. Actually it's my worst pain in ass. What is my main problem - I lose will to work during that process, or vision how it should look at the end. I had two robots. But I can't finish them because I've lost vision  of some parts. And those created as "improvisiation" just suck ass.  Basically I had idea how looks head and nec of machin k- but I can't see in mind clear vision of how they are connected to torso.

I tend to focus on the higpoly first and get that finished before doing anything else, that way you can keep you eye on the overall shape without worrying about the technical side. On the plus side if your model isn't going to end up in a game engine there's usually no need to do high to low baking

Do you use zbrush for highly detailed models. Or just 3ds max/blender and it's hard surface tools?

Bloodstability In reply to QNAMAN [2017-04-12 08:13:04 +0000 UTC]

For hard surface stuff I use just Maya and some great external boolean tools, they really speed things up

QNAMAN In reply to Bloodstability [2017-04-12 09:30:59 +0000 UTC]

oh, yes. Lately I bought simple addon for blender called "Hard ops" . CSG is great for fast hard surfaces. But it's topology is usually messed up after fewoperations.  After all. I'm using method involving tuborsmootch/subivison . But it takes a lot of time.

Bloodstability In reply to QNAMAN [2017-04-12 11:16:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah subdiv workflow takes long for hard surface stuff, unless you're willing to use a lot of ngons then it becomes much easier and faster

QNAMAN In reply to Bloodstability [2017-04-12 12:04:23 +0000 UTC]

ughh... at this moment I'm learning how to make retopology on minigun. And it was look insane at first. But I get idea. The worst part is that they need to be made only from quads because ngons creates glitches after applying displacement maps with bumps and scratches.... ;-(

Bloodstability In reply to QNAMAN [2017-04-12 15:21:42 +0000 UTC]

Ah allright, yes unfortunately its better to have everything in quads if you're using displacement

It looks great but the next time you have to add the Eagle into a scene with a background and everything!!!
Even the driver has to be sitting in the car.

A pretty impressive car. For some reason, that razor saw edge over the top reminds me of some cartoon car I think. It almost looks like a circuit board in the see through view.

I see a little of the Shelby Cobra 427 in it, a little of the Ferrari Daytona, a little of the Ford Mustang Fastback and maybe a little of the '53 Corvette in it. Perhaps another more modern Euro car that I can't quite put my finger on.

It's hot, it looks aggressive, it looks cool, though I think I'd hate to drive it because those front fenders might be a little too tall to see over them. Yet, it's for a game and not real life so I guess that isn't a critical concept.

Bloodstability In reply to Mann-of-LaMancha [2015-04-13 08:33:34 +0000 UTC]

Glad you like it

The design is actually an amalgamation of the previous eagle designs rather than being based on real life cars While the visibility isn't perfect out the small window, the fenders don't really block the view much at all.

Mann-of-LaMancha In reply to Bloodstability [2015-04-13 11:24:41 +0000 UTC]

I didn't mean to suggest you were actively seeking to replicate other cars, I was just alluding to, in a similar vein as the Greek concept that there are a finite amount of original stories and all other stories are simply innovations based on the finite few, that there are likewise a finite amount of "original" shapes for a car.

I think I remember an automotive design manual I read, back in my twenties, that was written based on car designers input from 20+ years earlier and they stated that basically all car future designs are based on either a wedge or an egg or a combination of the two. So, in that regard, the wedge has been around for thousands of years, and the egg, well... people are still arguing what came first, the chicken or the egg. In that vein, we are all simply making innovations of what came before us.

My point is, I was not pointing an accusatory finger at you. Just noting that, to me, your design if anything, has a pedigree of elements of successful and widely appreciated production cars in it.

Sorry, I get long winded when I first wake up.

Oh no it's cool, I'm not offended, I'm well aware that cars or their styling ques will look like other cars, it's inevitable since there's so many of them All I was saying is that I didn't look at real life cars for inspiration but only at the previous eagles which probably drew reference from the real world, so in an indirect way my design is more than likely influenced by real life anyway
