Yes, they ARE mother and daughter; the little girl was conceived in vitro, with sperm from a bank, but the egg was from her cyborg mother.
This cyborg scientist have 70% of her body replaced by artificial organs and systems and is a single mom, but she's really proud of her healthy and brilliant little babygirl and loves her very much; especially when they have fun skating in their backyard.
These are relatively normal things on Mars.
