I saw ads for the museum in this place on buses when I visited Philly, and sadly didn't have time to visit. I really would've loved to see it. Crazy how little time it takes for manmade structures like this to deteriorate significantly.

When I saw this image on the front page, I knew exactly where the picture was taken! I love visiting ESP; since it's relatively close, I end up going to their Halloween haunted house event every year as well as one historic visit.
You captured the room really well! Lighting is perfect to make the red on the chair really pop among the tan, bleak walls and floor.

What a fasinating capture. The picture makes me think of all the people that got their hair cut and how long were they in jail? The picture tells a million stories.

Thank you kindly Niecy. I dread to think how life as a barber would be here with scissors and a razor surrounded with hardened criminals... then again from what I read it seems this place served as an early model for reforming prisoners instead of punishing them. Hence the term "penitentiary" as a means (at least in principal) for striving to redeem penitent souls.

This completely creeps me T.F. out, Nicolas... it just does. Had to tell you.
But I can't help but love everything about it too!! Aaaaahhhh!!!
So now on to being so much more fair: The manner in which you have captured this spot,
it just really makes the walls look like they're closing in on us, or at least me, and the creepy
lonesome red chair among the rusty sand and the pale green paint peeling off the walls... it
just makes it so eerie, esp. w/ the disheveled appearance of what is I'm assuming now an abandoned
penitentiary, only adds to that whole factor... I have claustrophobia, if you couldn't tell, and yet
a sincere love and appreciation for the beauty in things old/abandoned such as this... egh, I can't
get enough of it, I love to "hate" it and I "hate" to love it, so either way, I still LOVE it!!
And it's beautifully captured, indeed... okay, sorry if my comment is mixed up and confusing,
the photography itself is beautifully done, so is the compositing, it's brilliant work, remember,
I'm claustrophobic, yet still spending this much time looking at it ... Gah!
Says much!

Thank you very much Michelle!!! It's what draws me into these grungy scenes even if I prefer scenic landscapes. Takes me out of my comfort zone while looking for beauty in decay.

Not so much where I live, but the places I travel to and research ahead of time in hopes of taking good pictures. I imagine there must be many scenic spots in Poland
